Does the game support Widescreen

Someone please let me know if the game supports widescreen resolutions, like 1680 x 1050. I want to buy the game but before I do that want to make sure it supports widescreen. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

I assume you will have no problems with a widescreen since the game can be started in window mode. In my case 1024x960 (1280x1024 if I play it in fullscreen). I recommend the window mode since Alt-Tabing out of the game can cause ocasional crashes <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huhh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:k" border="0" alt="huhh.gif" />

The game does not support widescreen displays, unfortunately. It merely stretches the image horizontally when you play in fullscreen mode, or appears as a window in the middle of the screen if you play in windowed mode.

For this reason I play in a windowed mode. Seems to be a bit more stable as well...

Truth to be told, too many developers seem completely ignorant of widescreen displays... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

That really sucks, I want this game bad, but I don't know if I want to play in a windowed mode.........

Playin' in windowed mode prolly ain't gonna be too much o' a hardship fer ye, matey! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Fred Bob be a wonderin' if'n mebbe ye kin try tweakin' de horizontal an' vertical screen resolution manually in de engine.ini file! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

Hi, I have a widescreen notebook and the ATI drivers do the job. I play anygame on widescreen and it looks great.

Nah, those only stretch the image horizontally. There are only a very few games that actually support widescreen (showing more stuff, than a normal screen would, at the sides)...

hi all. as bob stated if you go into your game config file in the game folder and edit yuor (screen x =1680 & screen y =1050 ) & full screen =1 try this it also works for p.o.t.c. have fun. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Okay, as to wide screen. I'm using an SGI 24" Wide Screen display, running the game in a native 1920x1440 Resolution. The game looks incredibly good that way.

Sadly, the only way you can set that resolution is to do so by hand.

Go into the main game directory, edit engine.ini file.

Set screen_x and screen_y to your desired settings, test.

If things look funny, try another Widescreen resolution until you find one that looks good on your monitor.

Remember to do this only after you have run the game for the first time, else the configuration utility will pop up and scramble the edit you just did.

Hope this helps everyone out.

Although it's true, and the image is slightly streched on a widescreen, it's still alright visually and you barely notice the difference.

Someone should borrow Akella a widescreen, so they can make a widescreen function and test it.

Apparantly, they are under-funded.

LOL!! Believe me, if I had a WS display to spare, I'd send one over to them in a flash. **grins** As it is, the stretching is minimal and the game still look great in the res I'm using.

Just wish one of Akella's publishers would pony up some decent cash for the guys, get them set up with some new hardware and tools to bring them all the way up to speed. They've been running thier show for years doing a bang up job with what they've got bringing us almost every really good fighting sail sim for the last 6 to 10 years now. Examples being Sea Dogs, Pirates of the Caribbean, Age of Sails, Age of Sails II, Privateers Bounty and several others.

Im working on widescreen support in the game, it's not so hard adding it it just requires a lot of testing, and hey i dont even have a widescreen, i dunno what they are talking about that they need one to make compatible. All u need is someone to test it.
