Does your master gunner earn his pay?

Ever noticed in those big fleet engagements that its hard to really appreciate the situation while still having to manually aim your shots? Ever wonder what your officers are doing while you are aiming all of your guns simultaneously?

Well, how about an option to give the firing of your guns (not the ammo type, but the aiming and firing) to an officer. Perhaps this new option could be a command in the give order command tree. Additionally, you could switch between volley firing, like ships fire now, or individual firing. As it stands, it seems like fort guns fire individually, not in a volley.

Just a thought, it would give the crew more of a team atmosphere.

Or if you could tell that master gunner (isn't that your cannoneer?) to fire on a certain ship. I've had many situations where there were two ships within gun's reach on one side, with one being my sinking target and one my boarding target. Then I switch to third person view and press space (the ease of not having to aim...) and ofcourse they fire at the wrong ship (bastards!).

It would be nice if you could tell him to attack a certain ship and he'd fire volleys at that one ship wherever it goes and whenever cannons are available... nice! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Good idea, I'd love to learn how to adjust programing and try and make my own mod could some one please attempt to tell me how to do this or a simple mod that they would like to see (maybe a gun smith) and help me make it? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/pirate3.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p2" border="0" alt="pirate3.gif" />:

That would be cool, maybe make the gunners on the other ships smarter too? Many a time I selected a ship from my fleet to attack a ship, fires `1-3` volleys and sails off as if it was running away unless I give new orders.

I have noticed that the AI of your other ships during a battle seems to increase appreciably once you have officers with better skills on them - and you're playing at a higher level of difficulty...

I love the idea of being able to volley fire. Or perhaps keep half your guns loaded with ball, and half with grape or knippels so you can choose which to fire when without waiting for the crew to reload... Granted, it would cut down the number of guns firing at the same time, but in the heat of battle waiting for those guns to reload is a REAL PROBLEM that I think a canny captain might circumvent by having some guns loaded differently... ? Yes?

Cap'n Cornish, take a look at the WIKI (one of the sticky posts on this board), it has alot of beginner info on how modding is done. Then try to do some modding yourself and ask any questions you have <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />. That's the way I learned it (granted I had been a programmer for over 10 years... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />)

Catalina, yes that would, in a real life situation you can ofcourse load each cannon as you see fit, not having to mind any stupid AI rules <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />. I think you're right on that, I believe we have been cursing about that (reloading all sides at once) for about a year and a half and so far `no-one` has done anything about it. Perhaps it is defined in the engine after all...

I have indeed also noticed coward captains in my fleets. I would order them to attack a fort and would go in `head-on` myself, only to find out that the other ship is circling around a rock well outside shooting distance from the fort... sigh, so much for having a fleet attack a for then <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_eek.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="icon_eek.gif" />
