"Don't Touch" question

Does changing the starting character models and ships cause any problems down line? I've tinkered with them without any obvious problems but they are at the bottom under an item that implores me not to mess with it.

Shouldn't be a problem there, matey. I do it all the time when I'm testing new mods and updates. The "Don't Touch" refers to the three items grouped together just before all the starting characters and ships. Pieter might be able to rearrange those entries to eliminate the confusion.

I am going to rearrange the entire BuildSettings.h anyway. And remove all unused settings. And make everything better-working.

You can safely change the starting ship and character model things for all I know. However, if you add character models that were not there previously, there will be a missing character image in the interface. You can add such an image manually by adding a modelname.tga.tx file to RESOURCE\Textures\INTERFACES\BACKGROUND. I don't think that is a requirement for it working properly though.

The only things you should not touch are:
RANDOM_LOCS_TOGGLE
This enables a mod by CCC where you can open any closed door and be teleported to a random location. It does work and is funny but works rather odd.
BUILDVERSION
This is the one thing you shouldn't touch. It doesn't enable/disable any mod, but it is used for the reinitialisation process.
DISARM_MODE
This is an old mod by me where you can disarm your opponents if you are lucky. It actually does work, but might cause some weirdness. This mod has been superceded by the bladedamage mod, which is a more sophisticated and better-working mod, I think.
