Dutch character Ian's storyline

I played for a while with this character and I can't find anything that looks like Peter Blood's main story. Looks more like a more sandbox character. Is this True?

Also, since I can change this in character generation: what is the difference when choosing between corsair/merchant/adventurer? I can choose any of these for Ian and the game looks (at least the early ranks) the same.

Yep, Blood is the only one who has an introductory quest, the others just get thrown into the world and that's it. You do have all the other quests available, though (COAS, Tenochtitlan, the Dutchman, the national and pirate quest lines, etc.).
