Editing the Character Model

John Paul Jones

Landlubber
Is it possibe to edit the character models? (i.e. their clothes.) If it is possible, how do you do it?

My Idea was to switch the models between the default charactert model and the Spanish "conquistador" moder, but dont know if its possible.

i know it can be done cause there is a mod out there that gives him bloack shirt rather then white <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/william.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":will" border="0" alt="william.gif" />

You mean change the 3dmodel (add the main character beard like Blackbeard) or change the model texture? The first one cannot be done yet.

Yes it can be done, I made a new head for my guy to look more like me. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

Nice!! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

Now he has to change all gouvernors daughters to Elaine Marley. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Any chances of finding a nice redhead gov's daughter, or does that need to be modded into the game too? lol <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

Wow! Nice work! Is there a trainer or something? I want hats, coats, birds etc <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Yes, I've seen that mod in Addicted to Pirates. Great work. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

However, he didn't change the model by any means, but `re-skinned` the character's face. I'm also trying to find a way to swap the main character's model for, say, Blackbeard's. However, there are lots of .KF files (use unknown, I think they give "instructions" to the model on how to do stuff) that should be dealt with.

Yeah the KF Files contain the (I think) the various animation scripts and actual meshes, which is why you can't switch out the main character.

And thanks Pokerface! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

A soldier/officers outfit would be cool, similar to that mod for POTC that lets you swap skins/models. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bounce.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":b:" border="0" alt="bounce.gif" />

Isn't it possible to swap the desired model with the original one and have the new model carry out the orders in the original characters's .KF files? I'd try but I really don't know which are the files that contain the model of the main character and the other people.

Something that would be really neat is an appearance that changes with the character status. If he´s poor and unknown, he wears ragged clothes and looks, well, poor but as he gain fortune and reputation his appearance improves (clean shirt, tidy hair, ornate clothes etc). As well, the health and age being reflected by the look would be nice.
But I gather someting like that is next door to impossible.

To be fair though - your first succesful act of piracy would probably bring in enough gold for you to get some decent clothes, and if one is willing to risk hanging, then I can't imagine theft or intimidation of a shopkeeper holds much fear for you.

There's almost no reason your pirate should look anything other than the dashing scoundrel he is. Though changes with age would certainly be nteresting. Or being able to pick up a few piratey accoutrements, like a hook or pegleg, instead of being imprisoned. Maybe it could have a detrimental effect on your health instead of you losing six or so months in prison?

By the sounds of it, no. Apparently the animations and the actual model are stored in the same file, so the animations are probably model specific. Still, a straight swap MIGHT be possible if the other models contain exactly the same animations as the main player model. Also. I notice your clothing changes during the dancing sections - is this a model change or just a texture change>

It IS possible. I've been experimenting for a while myself. This is what I posted yesterday at ATP (I have made a lot of progress since then): <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

<b>First breakthroughs</b>

I've extracted all the FPKs to a single folder and began rummaging through the files, so I don't know in which specific pak are the files I've used. I swapped the main character's model with Jack Rackham's. These were the files I used:

- jack_rackham.kfm (renamed to <i>pc.kfm</i>)
- jack_rackham.nif (renamed to <i>pc.nif</i>)
- rackham.dds (renamed to <i>player_character_body.dds</i>)

This were the results:
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v455/ShadowB/Misc/charswap1.jpg" target="_blank">http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v455/Sha...c/charswap1.jpg</a>

They're favourable, but the model only shows up in duels (one type of deck duels confirmed, the reaction in the rest are unknown), and only if you don't wear any kind of armour. In towns the model changes depending on your rank and the town's nationality. Modifications should be made to the default character's head in order to have uniformed bodies with Rackham's head.

There's another problem, too. As you can see in the picture, there are clipping issues in the character's leg ( the legs go through the coat), possibly caused by the default dueling stance. The clipping show up again when the duel is over and your enemy falls overboard (one of the legs goes through the coat again as the character leans to see where his foe fell).

Any help would be great. Opinions are also welcome. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />[/quote]

As it was said several times in <i>this</i> topic, we think that .KF and .KF files give the models specific instructions about how to do stuff, such as fencing and dancing moves.
