<blockquote> Pre-orders for East India Company will Include “Pirate Bay” Campaign for Free

NEW YORK - July 17, 2009 – Paradox Interactive and Nitro Games today announced the launch of the official pre-order pack for upcoming real-time strategy game East India Company™.

The “Pirate Bay” bonus campaign will be included in all pre-orders via GamersGate, Steam, Impulse and Direct2Drive.

The “Pirate Bay” campaign starts in 1650 and gives players control over a frigate and level 2 pirate captain (commander) with the skills “Feared” and “Rout.” At the start of the game, the player fleet is located in the pirate port in northern Madagascar.

“The Pirate Bay Campaign will allow gamers to play for a faction used to loot what others have worked hard for, rather than creating anything of value themselves,” explains Fredrik Wester, CEO of Paradox Interactive. “It will be an interesting challenge for gamers to put themselves in the shoes of these mischievous wrong-doers rather than the heralded heroes.”

"East India Company did not originally have pirates as a playable faction as we wanted to concentrate on the actual companies. However, we received an incredible amount of feedback from people who told us how much they would love to play as pirates. It became clear that the best way to implement pirates as a playable faction was to make a separate campaign for them. The best part about the campaign is that you can actually compete against other players and find out who's the best pirate by uploading your points to EIC homepage afterwards,” said Kim Soares, lead designer of Nitro Games.

East India Company is scheduled to be in stores on July 31st , 2009 with a SRP of $39.99 / €39.99 / £34.99. Read more about the game: <a href="http://www.eic-game.com/" target="_blank">http://www.eic-game.com</a></blockquote>

Awesome news! Pirates as a playable faction highly increases the likelihood of me buying this game! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

Yeah, I thought it was rather groovy, I'm doing the pre order now through gamers gate Steam upsets me when it can't login to their server which makes it impossible to start my own games..

Sweet, have been lookn forward to this game and this news made my day. Just preorderd a copy. Lookn forward to sailn in game as a pirate o <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Downloaded demo via fileplanet and game does look pretty. No M/P included but was fun trading to complete missions. At one point my Schooner was attacked by 3 Spanish Schooners and they fled battle, thought was in fer a schlacking :sail

It's sad, I was chosen for the beta but didnt do it (too busy) now I have no idea about it :(

Demo is just a taste, someone complained it lacked content, throw in M/P modes there are I think, 6 modes. Setup a battle between 2 SOL and demasted him with 3 broadsides of Chainshot, extremly powerfull ship. My fleet commader used some of his skills u activate during battle, end result was disaturous.

So all up you think it's worth it?

Also, are the naval fights more like AOP or like Empire?

Yes, believe it is Keith, not really into trading games, however really enjoyed first part of Campaign completed and placed second over all Nations. Trading aspect is really well done although im not an expert on trading games.Really well polished and saw no bugs to speak of.
Naval battles are a blast and are similar to AOP with exception u control ship movements by waypoints in Tactical mode,BOARDFING IS GRAPPLING ENEMY SHIP AND MOVIE CLIP DISPLAYS FIGHT AND IF YOU WIN INTERFZCE SCREEN DISPLAYS YOUR SHIP AND ENEMY SHIP, FROM THERE U CAN TRANSFER CARGO AND CAPTURE SHIP IF U HAVE ENOUGH CREW.
Had an awsome battle against French fleets of 4 Cutters and a Xebec against my fleets of 1 Xebec and 3 Schooners and went down to hte wire. AI is very good in this battle case and had me sweating as Xebec agaist Xebec my crew and ship barley won the battle. Using wind and line battle formation won by a very small margin.2 ships surrenderd and was able to add one ship to my fleets and loot it for cargo. U can have up to 5 ships in 1 fleets to a max 20 fleets.

Quickly learned to build a fleet of Xebecs for Trading and battle. They are fast and deadly, have good hull hitpoints and with a good fleet commander, can be very deadly in first part of campaign. Just starting second part so will post more later. :cheers

Tip though, u need to enter ports often for trading, ship repairs an such, it is wise to turn off 3D Ports in Graphic settings, looks pretty enabled, but loading times can be a frustration for some. Another screeny of demasting SO: for the win

I would say the game is definitely worth it. I did not think I would get into trading side of the game but it becomes very addictive. I doubt I will be buying it soon because the missus is still a-little pissed about the amount of time I spent 'Testing' the game.

I never did get to complete a campaign mostly because I fought almost all the battles my self. The more battles a ship fights the better it becomes at battle. This also applies to your commanders. It seems if you auto-resolve with a simple grocery commander the odds are not in your favor. The best choice in many of these situations is to do as Monty Python states "Run Awaayyy". After you fight a couple battles he becomes much better.

The little bit of the MP I played was very fun.

Also, are the naval fights more like AOP or like Empire?
Never played AOP. Played the Empire Demo. EIC is more like Empire in that you have to use waypoints. The ship have a more realistic movement than Empire. Battles in a raging gale provide a very tough exercise in timing your broadsides.

Wait till you get a hold of a Frigate. Take Good Hope and station a squadron of a couple Frigates. Save the best ditch the rest. Great Fun. Bleed the other nations dry in short time.

Only 1 st part of campaign completed, not sure how far I can go with Demo?, Probly wont finish it before full version game is released, since preorderd will receive the pirate campaign and well ,Greg ye knows me well enuff by now I'll be playn as pirate, from which ya start with lvl 3 F.C. and a frigate.
Most dont probly know, Most of my Gametime has been spent the last year playn Pirates Of The Burning Sea. Lvld 2 pirate classes to 50 and PVP/ Port Battles are intence and costly, but much fun, but requires a lot of patience and time with FLS changes to the game sometimes requires more time to relearn diffrent tactics.
Say Hi to Gunner for me and hope to see ya in some battles when Buccaneers patch is released . :piratesahoy!

Indeed looking forward the the Buccaneer co-op upgrade. Hopefully some EIC MP battles in the not to distant future.

The Gunner wants a fish for her birthday?
Greg.

Heya Bob, long time no see.

Will put all the information I can muster up, I've already pre ordered so hopefully I'll have something on the weekend.

Got my hooks crossed that this works out well.

Hey there Keith. I got broadsided by two young upstarts if you get my drift.

As for EIC - I've had it on my radar, and the more info I can get the better.

Arrrrrgh!

Aye Bob, How ye been mate, also preorderd, should be able to download today when get home from work.Long weekend in Canada, monday being a holiday, should be able to get 3 days in playingtime.also did enjoy the open beta.

:cheers

two question to people who played the game already...

1) are there also treasure-quests?

2) is there also an scene where you have to colibrate your ship through storm? (like in AOP 1+2) ?

please can someone tell?
