Engine not working

D312VAN

Landlubber
Hey

I've really enjoyed the build 13 full and would like to carry on playing it but i can't because every time I run engine(PotC Shortcut) it says 'Engine is not responding' then 'Engine has stopped working' shortly after loading up the storm engine.

Please could you guys help me as this really has annoyed me as PotC is my all time favorite game.

Thanks,

Max

P.S. I have Windows Vista and I have already moved the game outside Program Files

maybe installing it outside of program files in the first place matters, instead of moving it out afterwards?

:gday

Umm, it worked for some time and then it quit working? Do you have logs enabled?

tracefilesoff = 0

[script]
debuginfo = 1
codefiles = 0
runtimelog = 1
;tracefiles = 0

I Dunno

Do I ?

Yup, I think.

Here is what mine look like.

tracefilesoff = 0
[script]
debuginfo = 1
codefiles = 0
runtimelog = 1

I don't have that 2nd tracefiles at all in build 13 or build 14.

Do you have a compile.log, error.log, and system.log in your POTC folder? If so please post them as attachments.

1. Have you read the F.A.Q. and all the subsequent links it points you to?
2. Are you using a laptop or desktop?
3. How much free ram do you have?
4. Type of graphics card or graphics chipset?
5. What version of the mod do you have installed?
6. Do you get the same error with just the stock version of POTC installed?
7. Windows Vista 32 bit or 64?
8. Does it get passed the DirectX load screen and actually start to load the intro?

I think i have error.log and system.log but i cant see compile.log

When I open BethesdaSoftworks/PiratesOfTheCarribean these are the files that are there:

FixBS
Modules
PCUninstall
Program
Resource
Save
BuildInfo
BuildSettings
BuildSettings - Copy(Because I edited some files but of course followed the instructions)
Config
DrvMgt.dll
ENGINE
engine
error
options
readme
RunMe
SECDRV.SYS
system
UNWISE

I hope these help.

Answers:

1. I dunno
2. I am using a COMPAQ Presario CQ60
3. In Control Panel it says Memory(RAM): 3.00
4. Processor: AMD Turion Dual - Core RM 70 2.00 GHz
5. I downloaded the Build 13 Full ( I think that's also Build 13 Update 3)
6. No. In fact i have been successfully playing the build up until this problem
7.32 bit
8. As I said before it pops up with Engine is not responding just as it gets to the storm engine screen. I think at the bottom of the storm engine screen it gets stuck on XINTERFACE.dll

3. In Control Panel it says Memory(RAM): 3.00

Should be plenty, just make sure you have as few background processes running as possible.

4. Processor: AMD Turion Dual - Core RM 70 2.00 GHz

The CPU you have will play the game no problem, but we really need to know the graphics chipset you have.

5. I downloaded the Build 13 Full ( I think that's also Build 13 Update 3)

That helps, thanks!

6. No. In fact i have been successfully playing the build up until this problem

This tells me your chipset is probably an Nvidia, because the game doesn't like to work at all with Intel graphics chipsets. But it would be good to know the exact model.

That helps, thanks!

8. As I said before it pops up with Engine is not responding just as it gets to the storm engine screen. I think at the bottom of the storm engine screen it gets stuck on XINTERFACE.dll

Look for a file in the main program directory called "options", try deleting that file and then run the game and see if you get the same error.

Hey, The graphics ARE Nividia!
The Links in the F.A.Q don't work for some reason.
I tried deleting the options but it didnt do anything unless you ment deleting them from recycling bin aswell.

I will attach my internal settings to another reply so you can have a look as i was editing them shortly before the crashing started.

Cheers,
Max

HEY PLEASE LOOK AS I THINK WHATEVER THIS MEANS MAY BE THE PROBLEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(Sorry for the use of capital and explanation marks)

I have seen that error before in B14 and it was associated with a ctd.

You have no compile log at all? It is possible that something is seriously buggered and a re-install might be in order.

The links in the first post of the FAQ are all internal to that thread, it helps if you actually read the them! The link for the Build 13 FAQ is in the last post of that thread, and it DOES work.

I believe Hylie Pistoff is correct, time for a complete re-install.
