I know there are other topics on the engine.exe problem. but yes i recently bought this game for 40 bucks and i cant return it and since i cant return it i want to play it. I installed, tried everything, installing 1.42, ect but still gives me the engine error and crashes after the wheel. i installed 1.5 too, same problem. And then i tried installing AoP Super Mod, still doesnt work for me. I realllly want to play this game. idk whats wrong.

my specs

1024mb RAM
2.6ghz P4
ATI 128mb 9000 Radeon Evil Commando Pro (i heard this game doesnt like ATI)

those are my specs, i also have direct x 9c but when it loads it says initializing direct x 8.. i cant return and this was a waste of money for me. =(

try:

install game
install patch 1.5
use the no-dvd crack from gameburnworld.com for version 1.5

and see if that in any way helps.

patch 1.5 is your best bet for ATI cards.

nope i tried all NO-CD patch

Well heres what i did to be exact
Installed Super Mod, tried it clean without updates, doesnt work, uninstalled it.
Then after uninstalling Super Mod, installed patch 1.5, i didnt uninstall AoP, its a hassle since i uinstalled it and reinstalled it about 8 times total, well i installed patch 1.5 and tried NO-CD patch, still doesnt work. Is it my graphics card problem? I know my card is about 4 years old

hmmm im not sure, i used to play Knights of the Old Republic II and that needed my driver to de-grade to a 5.2, i think i have the ati catalyst 5.2 im not sure, i forgot, but im going to try to get the newest one which is a 6.1 now. ill let u know if it works.

nope, fresh install installed 1.5, NOcd updated eeverything, driver, windows, still gives error, reinstalled, tried same thing with AoP SM

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/poet.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hmm" border="0" alt="poet.gif" /> It could be your card! However, I've got a ATI Radeon 9600 and 9800 both on 128 mb in
2 computers and 1GB DDR 400 ram and have no problems at all! The cards are about 3 -4 years old.
Space on the HD is very important! I found when going below 25% free on c: my computer goes very
slugish! Go to the ATI Webpage and try to find info. about your card. I know the game has problems
with the 9250 cards! Wish you lots of luck! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bookish.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mm" border="0" alt="bookish.gif" />

sounds like you're missing a file or a variable

what version of the game and/or various mods are you using?

i got AOP v1.50. heres how i did it all just to make sure ive got it right. i installed the game then installed v1.43 (didnt know v1.50 was out) then had to uninstall. reinstalled game then installed v1.50 and tried to play. all i get is about 15 mins gameplay then it says the engine.exe error. ive read other threads to see if any of them help at all for eg ive increased my virtual memory to 4000 (im no computer expert so that may not help at all tbh) ive made sure my HD has sufficient space i currently have about 45gb spare on a 120gb HD. I have the newest drivers for the 7800gtx im running got 1024 mb ram and my 3.2ghz processor isnt overclocked. i usually exit a few processes in my task manager to improve general performance. thats everything that i do nothing else and i havent a clue what else to do now to be honest. oh i forgot to mention before i dont have any other mods or anything like that either. Also whether it makes a difference or not the game also did this before any patches or addons (from retail) if possible any help would be greatly appreciated.
