how would i go about changing the players flag to something else? like when u can chose to raise an england, spain, holland, etc. flag and ur own i want to change what it looks like
 
The flag seen in 3D sailing mode or the one in the interfaces? Get the TX Converter from <a href="http://www.s31clan.com/privateftps/pietersmods/tools.htm" target="_blank">my site</a>. That will enable you to convert the textures to an editable format. The 3D sailing mode flags are in RESOURCE\Textures\flagall.tga.tx, the interface flags are in the Interface subfolder. Check all files; you'll find them soon enough. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />
 
On that note, after playing around with 3D flag textures, i became annoyed with the little red and white stary thing that represents your custom flag. I can't find it in the `interface` section of textures...and i've snooped around in many places but still no avail...
Any clues?

In ...\RESOURCE\Textures they will be a file named flagall.tga.tx open that file with the TX Converter that Pieter mention so you can convert it into tga format.

So once you open it with the TX Converter, convert it into tga then use a program like Photoshop plus or similar to modify your tga, after your done making the necessary adjustment, use the TX Converter again to convert it back into tx.

Sorry, I feel I worded that poorly;

I CAN change the 3D flag, but was frustrated that i could not change the flag show in the relations interface, so the one seen when using sail to.
In the "INTERFACE" sub-folder there are files for all the other nations, but as of yet i can't find one for the players personal flag; I was hoping to change it to better reflect the design on the 3D flag.

the file flagall.tga.tx is the one you need.

However, I can, and have changed that file (i.e. RESOURCES\Textures\flagall.tga.tx).

The 3D flag shown on 3rd & 1st person sea view is correct and as I want it.

The flag I am trying to change is shown in the attachment.

I can't find the texture file for this small flag anywhere, and was wondering if someone else had found it. It is the same flag as seen in the `sail to` menu, and the `relations` screen.

No worries, it's a tricky one to explain without pictures.
the only luck ive had is this tga file. the third flag has a "?" on it...i `might` try to change it....

I think I found them in Battleinterface, look at the file named, all_nations.tga and small_nations.tga

Huzzar!

It seems to work...i need to do a little work on fine tuning...(as i use paint, they end up being on a black background...which is far from ideal...but it's getting there....

Good call on those flags, It worked in the end just needed to fiddle with the conversion settings in Tx editor!
For those who are interested (or just those who want to see what all the commotion was about!) see the attached pic!

Cool! I'm still wondering what flag we should eventually use as default player nation flag. Would be cool if the player could select his own flag, but that is rather hard to accomplish code-wise and is probably not going to happen soon. Therefore we must decide on something good for a default and any other options could be made into additional downloads.

While we're at the subject of interface flags: I would LOVE to have some interface textures where the French fleur-de-lis flag is replaced with the Napoleonic tricolour. This can then be an additional download for the Build for people who prefer a more Napoleonic touch to their game. I do have a 3D sailing mode Napoleonic flag, but not the interface textures.
 
I would love that to, it would be kool if we can also have flag older then the one in the original game. I modify my flag for the 13th to 15th century;

Holland: 3 strip Horizontals Orange/yellow+white+blue
French: Blue flag with 3 fleur de lys
Spain: No change
Portugal: Square logo instead of round
Pirate: The same
White Flag: The same
For player flag, I put on the Canadian(Red maple leaf), USA(9 strip + 16stars line up in one circle) and Canadian/British flag(Same as the British flag except additional red strip added) depend on the mood I'm. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

That would be kool to choose your own flag, I like the idea.

V. nice idea. I originally decided to do an EITC flag from the 17th century because of beckets appearance in Build 14 Alpha...but my computer fell out with 14 so back to 13 <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/urgh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":urgh" border="0" alt="urgh.gif" />

It isnt too hard to do...due to the small size of these flags...they can be fairly coarsely done (trust me i cant texture for pudding!)...it just took some fiddling with the Tx editor program and paint. Playing with Alpha layers and what not... the three files required to get it done are:

- RESOURCES\Textures\flagall.tga.tx
- RESOURCE\Textures\BATTLE_INTERFACE\all_nations.tga.tx
- RESOURCE\Textures\BATTLE_INTERFACE\small_nations.tga.tx

Would be cool to have some different flag packs, including the interface flags, for the different time periods.
