floating numbers

When you get into a fight and you see numbers floating up into the air dose this mean your poisoned and you need to take a potion

that's the damage received by the character ( yours or npc ) that has the numbers floating above him.

If you don't fight at this time it is poison indeed, but during the fight floating are color coded to show how much health the enemy has... which is useless because you see it's healthbar anyway (at least on captain difficulty)
