For anybody whose game is crashing

Rad

Hi, all again. As wrote in another post my game have crashed quite frequently lately. I suspected it can be caused by lack of virtual memory. Generally I am using two types of virtual memory alternatively. In the period of crashing my game I just used the classical virtual memory that Window XP adjust automatically itself. So, I changed my virtual memory into my second adjustment manually and crashing have stopped appear. ( I hope I don´t speak too soon). <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> I have two hardrives C,D and at both I manualy adjusted the size of virtual memory at C drive at both fields at the same value - 4000 MB, thus from 4000 MB to 4000 MB and at D drive the same way from 4000 MB to 4000 MB. All the computer run a little faster and game is much more stable. The disadvantage is that this memory reserves constantly 8 GB on hardrives but on the other hand it´s not to much at least for me. But if you would try it, don´t ajust larger value than 4000 MB. I have time-tested the 4000 MB is the best value. With larger value my computer doesn´t work well and smaller value won´t be so efficient. I am using this manual adjusting for several years already it works well for me. Once I read about it and tried it and it works. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />

Thanks for the tip! I'll have a go at that.
I used to set this some time back, but went back
to the windows default.Another setting is to delete your
swapfile, restart the computer to create a new one as the
old one gets fragmented and this procedure fixes the problem! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

Hi, Nosie, Please, tell me if it works it for you and if your game is more stable after that. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />

It works, I haven't had any crashes
since changing the swapfile to 4000 mb!
Did get crashes mostly during sea battles.
I played the game today for about 3 hrs on
and off and the system has been stable!!!!
My computer is a 3 gb Pentium 4 with 1 gb
Mem. and a Ati Radeon 9800 Video card. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

Hi, Nosie. I am glad it works for you the same way as it works for me. I hope it will be using by some another people too in the future. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

By the way where are you from in Australia? It sounds quite exotic for me. I am from Czech Republic. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/buds.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":drunk" border="0" alt="buds.gif" />

I live in Victor Harbor 120 km south of Adelaide in South Australia.
I emigrated from Germany a long time ago (giving my age away)
but what the heck.I was 22 when migrating to Australia with my wife.
The best move I ever made!! Became an Australian Citizen in 1966
and just celebrated my 68. Birthday!!!!
I only startet in ernest with Computers at the age of 57!
Now I build my own systems (lot cheaper!) and know my way around Windows
pretty well. I enjoy of course PotC and have been playing it for a
long time.
I love the Modding Community and the time they spent improving the game!!
My big thanks you goes to Pieter for his Dedication to the Community!!
I hope, he will visit me when he takes up his Job with the Merchant Navy!
Hopefully his ship will dock in Adelaide one day!!!? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/buds.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":drunk" border="0" alt="buds.gif" />

It´s amazing to hear something like that. I am "only" fifty but sometimes I feel very old and tired by anything lately. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" /> . But you are giving me an example and hope I can have some perspective for playing games and entertaining with computers for some years yet ( if my financial situation will allow it). You are lucky man you live at the seashore. It can be so nice and inspiring... I haven´t seen any sea for very long time. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ib012.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cry" border="0" alt="ib012.gif" /> Maybe for that reason I like the game with naval and pirate themes so much. By the way are you playing any other games too? And what about AoP do you have it already?

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/buds.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":drunk" border="0" alt="buds.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_praise.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bow" border="0" alt="icon_praise.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbs1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":2up" border="0" alt="thumbs1.gif" />

And one not so good information in the end. Yesterday my game crashed several times again but anyway the stability with this settings is better now then previously. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" /> Don't dispair things will get better!
Yes I play Tortuga, Port Royale, Sid Meiers Pirates and just about getting AoP deliverd.
However it worrys me because of STARFORCE Protection Software!
There is a lot of negative response on the net!
..And remember on thing gro old but no up!!!!!! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/buds.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":drunk" border="0" alt="buds.gif" />

I played Pirates but I didn´t like them too much. It seemed to me too short and easy. I played Port Royal and now I have Port Royal 2 but I don´t know how to play it. I didn´t understand the system transfering goods between warehose and ship and so on. I don´t have time for such strategies but I would like to play it someday. I have more games then time for their playing. I am looking forward to AoP but they don´t sold it in our country yet. But what about another games? Do you play any? I likes RPG games very much. And in the close future I plan to buy several games - Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, Gothic 3, AoP, Newerwinter Nights 2 and The Witcher. I especially likes series Gothic. They are my the best games ever. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

What about your crashing today or yesterday? Is it still better than previously? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/poet.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hmm" border="0" alt="poet.gif" /> No crash so far, but I did no have that many before. I am also to lazy to turn off
background programs like Virus or Firewall. They can make your game crash too because
of using memory. Therfore you should have at least 1 gb!
Port Royale2 is very easy to learn. Play the Tuturial games first!
If you like to play with trains, Railroad Tycoon3 is a good one to
pass the lonely hours with. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

I have always my firewall and antivirus switched on because I am constantly online and without them it´s very dangerous be connected to internet. I can use only hardware disconnection but sometimes I am a little lazy for that. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> But I play many new games and they almost never crach me because of firewall or resident protection of antivirus. I have 1.5 GB RAM. And it´s quite important what the quality of used RAM is. I have combination of 1 GB Corsair and 0.5 GB of Kingston, very fast and very stable. Once I will try Port Royal 2 again more patiently. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/poet.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hmm" border="0" alt="poet.gif" /> Well Rad, your not short of memory and I normaly don't turn anything off either.
The other solution is to do plenty of saves!! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/buds.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":drunk" border="0" alt="buds.gif" />

I love Port Royal 1&2, those are great games! My ideal sailing game would incorportate the trading and world map of those games and the combat and RPG style of POTC. I like how each ship in Port Royal has a purpose, an origin and a destination and every trade made by any ship influences the economy of the Caribbean. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Rad, I don't know if you've looked into it already or not, but many of my problems with crashing stemmed from my video card, its drivers and POTC's fussiness about them. I've never had a game so particular about drivers as POTC is.

I bought PR2 as a component of game magazine. And there wasn´t any manual or walkthrough. But I think I would undertand it in the end but I constantly don´t have time for that. I heard PR2 is the better than Tortuga and PR, so I am glad I have it. I am such a litlle collector of the games. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

And what about drivers concerns I have GF 6600 GT and I am using the latest certified drivers only. And because I have installed several another games and my computer almost never crashes....so I don´t know. But because of one game that sometimes crashes I would never change my drivers because I am satisfied with them. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

I can hardly wait for AoP. Skull wrote it´s good. We have very much games in Czech Republic in shops, some are sold here even sooner than in US and are cheaper than in US lately but some games aren´t imported for incomprihensible reasons for me at all. But I told to internet sales representative and he informed me the game should be in the market as soon as possible here. There is so many games on the marked that are very poor and on the other hand some good games aren´t imported to our country at all. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

My drivers worked fine for every other game too, but when I installed POTC, the manufacturer's drivers (I have a GF Ti4400) didn't work, they kept crashing POTC. I had to install omega drivers. They have caused much fewer crashes than the manufacturer drivers. I forget where I got them from, but I'm pretty sure if you do a search on them, you should find them no problem.

I know them I used them for a long time but I don´t want to use them any more. I like them in the past but I had some problems with them while using my current GF 6600 GT. Previously I had GF 4200Ti and I used them succesfully. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />
Same problem in Australia! So I buy a lot of my games
via Ebay from England, Canada, USA etc, and it is very good!
Please Read about Starforce before you install AoP!!!!!!!!!!! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sailr.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":sail" border="0" alt="sailr.gif" />

nope, not at all! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

it's not workin' with the 4000mb swap. the game crashes the same way as before. well... let's hope that 1.42 will solve this problem. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

Victhor, we talk about PoTC crashing and as I can see you have problem with AoP because you mean patch 1.42. Problems with AoP are probably caused by anything different from PoTC problems. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />
