Free Pirates!

I know I'm asking for a little much, but it's only because I care ... and the fact that the game has successfully outlived at least 30 pairs of my sneakers...

Come on Atari! Release Pirates! to Public Domain!

It's a classic! Such classics in literature are also available to the public at no cost. This classic game should be no exception. Give to the public what they want! You couldn't mass sell this game to the public anymore, but to the true die hard fans, we will show you a pledged support of sleepless nights blowing apart Spanish cities in search of the Silver Train and long lost relatives!

This game deserves to be permanentely etched onto every new hard drive that is produced by Dell, Compaq & HP ... or at least an easter egg on every Windows or Linux system out there.

Free Pirates! to the public! ;)

pfft! Atari have no idea about customer relations. But just get onto overnet you will probably find it there

I know. I can get the game if I want it ... but that's beside the point, ya know?

It's a matter of principal. I want Pirates! to be out there for the people. I want in on this site, and I don't want Atari being a bunch of big `bed-wetting` doody heads about it.

;)

Yeah it should be free for everyone. Like Origin's Privateer or Lucas Art's Monkey Island 1. Real game classics on which I wasted my youth. All People should be able to also do so.

we used to have it but in the infinate wisdom of Atari's laywers i had to take it down if i were you id go through emual or overnet to get it

The bastages of Atari.

They BETTER be packaging it with P!2.

Does Atari has offices in Malaysia? Seems to me like they wouldn't really be able to do much damage to someone over the river and through the woods ...

man i remember i was in early university days when it was released. i was in a hurry to do my homework (no internet that time :p: ) just to be able to play this EXCELLENT GAME. cant wait until its new and most awaited release come into market.

Atari needs to make a profit too.

Atari is talking about making a pirates 2 collectors edition that will include the original pirates game. but it will cost an extra $20.

I think part of the issue may be a legality over the name which prevents the original from being released to PD. The original game title was "Sid Meier's Pirates!", in fact I think it was the first MPS game where Sid's name appeared in the title (I may be wrong about this). Although in the forums everyone is calling the sequel Pirates 2, according to Atari/Firaxis, it's still titled Sid Meier's Pirates. I don't know the legal ramifications, but I wouldn't be surprised that having the same name would cause a problem if the original was released in the PD. What would stop anyone from taking the new game when it's released and giving it away for free saying "Hey, it's Sid Meier's Pirates, it's public domain, here take it!!!"

Any lawyers out there who can answer this?

Here you can play it for free,no savepossibility :

PIRATES II(a fan remake)

It was over a year ago when i managed to last play this game, anyone else play it? It seemed pretty decent to me.

I just checked the site and it still seems to be working ok, unfortunately the PC i'm on right now doesn't want to run it without some memmory management messing around - so i cant say for sure that its still a good download, but could be worth checking out.

the link is here <a href="http://www.geocities.com/Nashville/Stage/7473/pirates2.htm" target="_blank">http://www.geocities.com/Nashville/Stage/7...73/pirates2.htm</a> for more info on the game.

your welcome <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/pirate2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p:" border="0" alt="pirate2.gif" />

Just be aware its a DOS game - so if you got XP it could be a pain, the pc i'm on now is running Win98, but when i tried to setup the game it said i needed to add something to my config.sys.

Sadly i cant remeber how i got it working last time, but it was a little tricky - still it was worth it. Just a shame the guy didnt finish it completely. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ib012.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cry" border="0" alt="ib012.gif" />
