A French Admiral.

You can't really see it in this photo, but the Admiral's uniform had this odd embroidered stripe running down the arm of the coat. This is from the Royal French Navy. I can't find pictures, but I assume that Napoleonic Admiral's were a little less fancy.

I wish the corsair1_2 model was a little bit better. I can't get rid of that bump on the left lapel.. Hint Hint to any of you modelers. Not to mention the hats. The hats for all of these guys are wrong. So please, if any of yall have Maya 4.5 and are looking for something to do that would be a great help... please send me a PM. I'll give you in depth details about how all the hats should look. How great would it be to have wide Bicorns, and `fore-aft` bicorns for the French Marines and British Lieutenants. Wow. Not to mention Shako's for the French Infantry, and Top Hats for the British Marines. I'm getting ahead of myself here.

I'll post more updates later. Thanks again for letting me do this. I'm having a lot of fun.

Just a note, even if you get a modeler to make a new character model for you, they will not be able to be imported into PotC - we can do ships, but apparently there is *something* that is stopping the importation of new character models... I think it has something to do with the model animation... Not sure on that, but for now, it just can't be done. Ya gots ta stick with the models we have. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />
 
What disappointing news Cat. Interesting though. I wonder how Kodoboon added the Jack Sparrow model? What about just tweaking current models?
 
1796 French Line Infantry. Of course, guard duty on a Caribbean Island like Falaise d' Fleur isn't exactly front line caliber, but I can't find any information on what those soldiers wore. So, that in mind, I am going to pretend that they looked the same as the French troops serving in the Med.

IIRC, Sparrow's model was already in the game files, just not enabled until the modders dug him out and enabled him. I think the programmers ran out of time trying to make him an integral part of the game.

I don't think you can tweak current models, or someone would have done so already...

This is a big dilemma, one that people over in the PMT have been working on for quite a while - if ANYONE can crack this problem, they would get the gratitude of all PotC modders! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

JMV, these skins look great - I wonder if there might be a difference in what might be called the "undress" or "battle dress" uniforms. These all look so fancy... This started just because I wanted the people I'm fighting in my game to look good. Since that time, I have learned so much about Military Uniforms of the 18th Century. Its both fascinating and mind grudgingly boring at the same time.

Cat, yes, there were dress and undress back then, as there is today. I'm trying to keep all the Naval Admirals and Captains in dress while the Lieutenants I give me self leeway on. As for the soldiers though, enlisted men only really had a dress uniform. Sure there were elements to it they could swap out for different occasions, but generally speaking they wore rather "nice" clothes. You should see what I'm trying to copy. The real uniforms were truly amazing. Google "Napoleonic Uniforms." you'll be astonished. First of all, so many different uniforms, and second, its amazing that anyone could do battle dressed like that. Imagine fighting a war in a tuxedo.

I digress though. Vassal, I agree. Part of the reason for posting pics like this is because I hope you all will see something that I don't. On this one though, I agree, its missing something. The problem for me, though, is how do I make it look nicer without violating the historical accuracy? On second thought, without the proper head gear, the really good French Uniforms lose their strength.

So, it really comes back to what Cat was saying... If only their was some way to get or change in game models.

I'll think long and hard about fixing the French Infantry though. This pack is much harder than the Spaniards. Man3 just worked so well. Nothing works for this uniform.
