Friendly Ports that Fire anyway!!

Well gang, I have been navigating around this here game for the first time tonight......and I dont know if I like it yet or not...seems purty enough...but there are some funny stuff. I agreed to take a passenger to Guadaloupe from Barbados, and as far as I can tell, with them purty Green Bars, England and France are for once, friendly!!..... However approaching Guadaloupe, after coming outta sea mode, everybody and their Dog is firing at me including the Fort.....still England and France are friendly. New game so I have not done anything wrong yet.....why the Hostility and how do I continue...there do not seemed to be any beaches in this game....

It happens quite often with the ships - you entrer a battle between friendly ships and pirates only to find out suddenly some of the friendly ships are now enemies (and for some reason only "some", not all). Of course before any shots fired from you - so it is not just hitting accidently a friendly ship making it turn coats.
