Hi there - just got an idea for a `Semi-mod` , i dont know if anyone will agree, but i personally think that the frigates just look.... wrong. (im fascinated by naval warfare from 1600 - 1820, and have researched alot about the period) My main problem with these frigates is the raised quarterdeck, the thing is, most frigates that existed had a slight raise towards the rear where the helm would be, but nothing as much as those in the game, if you look at the pictures of of a regular looking frig (say the USS Constitution as an example) the helm area is actualy on the same level as the rest of the ship, and the grand cabin joins onto the rear of the ship on the same level as the gundeck. I think the reason Akella decided to make them look this way was to accomodate for the rear guns.... thing is, it was rare that ships of this era had rear guns, let alone four of them! in the rare incidence that a ship had rear guns, they were usualy posioned to the rear of the quarterdeck, not below the grand cabin (this also seemed unrealistic to me, because if they were at the level, water could easily get in through an open gun port, and bye bye frigate! So i was wondering if anyone would be willing, with the origional frigate model from akella, to do a mod which involved bringing the grand cabin down so that it left the rear of the ship flatter, without the stairs and instead have the grand cabin just join onto the rear of the ship as the constitution does,, and also to remove the rear guns, as these are unrealistic! - i know this proably seems a little vague, but if anyone doesnt understand just ask me! - i would do this myself, however have no skill in modeling whatsoever! but even so i dont think something like this would be a major task.
