Frustrated on CoAS Quest line

Tahlendorf

Landlubber
Ending of the quest... I´ve killed the Admiral Capper, now I´ve an officer (very good fighter and fine perks for sailing too) and I must head to the Tartarus to free The Mechanic.. I enter the Tartarus, fight the 2 guards and a very epic dialog..... now, when I go outside the full city is half drowned... I´m supposed to go to the 2nd mast of the Diffindur, whose masts are chopped-off it´s someway easy to spot in that mess of masts over the water, but it´s impossible to swim where you want... you advance 5m then a wave comes and gets you 30m back...

Is it supposed to be this way or I´ve made something wrong and it´s a very special way to say GAME-OVER????
It´s frustrating as hell.... if it´s supposed to be just like this... the designer is a bloody maniac... I was tempted to throw the disk out of the window to see it fly... the most frustrating experience I´ve ever experienced with a videogame by far....

Really is the end of the quest a "Swim for your life" against those bloody waves???
If I knew it before playing this questline I won´t play it again... the whole story of the quest is very good, the changes in the plot, the immersion of the story.... but this end.... naaaahhhh

Someone can enlight me, please?

PD- I forgot to put "Spoiler alert" on the description, now I can´t... can a Moderator do this, please?

I haven't advanced nearly as far in the COAS quest yet, but judging by my other experiences with the game that assessment seems generally correct. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> This really is an extremely unbalanced game and I have an intense love-hate relationship with it.

Exactly... too much contradictions in some ways.... love some parts, hate others... This quest, the main quest of the game (after all is the name of the game) is amazing, good story, good plot turnings, excelent immersion on the story.... but the end is off the scale of frustrating-anoying things... you´ve been a couple of days immersed in the story, doing some quests that are quite impressive and hard (like finding the Admiral´s key, fighting an entire Clan on your own, sneak into a conversation, the scuba-diving treasure hunt), but the end is out of comprehension and 0% Role Playing... The storm seems randomly generated when speaking to Hendrik on his cell, well I can accept that, but RPG elements must count a little more... I have 99 on luck with item modifiers and doesn´t count anything on it, and the wind comes from one side and the waves comes from another direction (issue that happens on most storms and annoys me).... if you´re unlucky for having an epic storm against you and the more you can advanced to the ship has been 10-20m and 3 secs later you´re 200m backwards and going more and more backwards, and waves appear to be generated right under you because you don´t see a wave but then one appears magicaly in front of you... man, that´s freaking annoying and frustrating, and just at the final chapter of this questline, perfect for screwing-up the opinion fo ALL the questllne despite of how good was the beginning and the plot...

yea i hated this bit i would get halfway there then get sweapt all the way back to where i started a bunch of times.

one thing that does seem to help is swimming diagonally when a wave come up or swim sideways into it seemed to me when i timed it right and did and with a little luck another wave would no come from the driection i was swimming into against. that way i would lose less ground then go back to swimming straight for it again until the next wave.

this level took me a good while while to get through and had me frustrated as heck with the waves.

but the ship you get is worth it.

If you carefully read the dialogues and a logbook, you will probably change their opinion. Use the slow down, "-", and swim to the right direction.

Just little, but I'm normal person in general. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
I want that you have remembered these adventures for a long time. Therefore it is necessary to anger you. Just little.

Oh my... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/24.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rofl" border="0" alt="24.gif" />

Seriously, though, some of it really doesn't make much sense. Like the English governor-general refuses to give me missions because I have ties with pirates. So I start a new game, only to find out that the mission he refused to give me was to make some ties with pirates. Double-yoo tee eff? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="<_<" border="0" alt="dry.gif" />

Personally I pretty much love the upgraded difficulty of the game. It makes things much more challenging. And challenge is good for the soul.

Thanks for everything you did to make things what they are, Eddy!!

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> at least you take it with good sense of humour <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />
Now that I´ve passed this passage on the game I have more and more mixed feelings... when I was suffering this stage (yep, suffering <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/urgh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":urgh" border="0" alt="urgh.gif" /> ) I was very frustrated... even angry. More than 20 tries, confussing as hell, when you think you´re going somewhere there come the waves.... but now that I´ve passed this episode I must admit that swimming on the sea during a hurricane in reality must be a difficult task to achieve, isn´t it??? You must feel the anguish of being powerlessness on the ocean during that brutal storm, being a ragdoll on every large wave... and without a chance to reload <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" /> god, pure ROLE PLAYING and total immersion on the situation of the game.... no words to explain, I can only bow myself for what can be achieved on this quest, truly amazing once you passed it... the most amazing ROLE PLAYING immersion I´ve ever had in all my years of playing RPG´s... You have all my respects <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_praise.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bow" border="0" alt="icon_praise.gif" />

Well darn, now I'm torn between looking forward to that part and dreading it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Tahlendorf, I totally get what you mean ... this afternoon I did 15-20 attempts and cursed the developers, this after I spend hours and hours looking for that damn Admiral's Key and had to replay a few hours because all the chests were magically empty (at the time I didnt know the key would just be lying there in the middle of a deck) Despite being very frustrating at times, the City of Abandoned Ships is a very unique and fun experience.

btw thanks for that image-switch, a sword is indeed easier to find, I only used it after I searched every inch of that City :p

The Diffindur Mast was easy to locate, getting there however was hell, in my successfull attempt I accelerated time to x5, I basically did a detour and eventually approached it from a North-ish direction as far as I know.

It's a technical problem. We have restrictions for possibilities also. I advise you to finish all national quests then you will find one more reason. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Marry the Isabella and then try to keep a family. It's for ROLE PLAYING immersion again.

Well.... I´ve all the intention, but I´m keeping it to more in advance game... Yo-Ho, Yo-Ho... a pirate´s life for me... and it´s hard to refuse the life of a pirate (or corsair) when there´re so much things to discover yet.... and my problems with spanish crown, they´re a bit angry because of their losses on gold caravans and military convoys.
...ehm.... If I´ve read well... "try to keep a family"... does it involve DESCENDANTS???? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wavarr.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":warr" border="0" alt="wavarr.gif" />

<b>BEST REGARDS</b>

I don't know if you can have children, but I only recently found out that you do get to marry Isabella eventually in the game. You get to buy a home and the whole bit.

This version of the game is turning more and more into the best Seadogs/Corsairs/Age of Pirates initial release EVER!

careful at your excitement at getting married :p. it not blissful its downright annoying. and your house well you cant store anything there, all it does is save you 5 to 10 plasters on a room if your in san juan, and your wifes way more a money sink than the few plasters you spend on rooms :p.

Its the simple fact that it exists at all. Lots of good material that we can modify to our own needs. **grins**

If you're married, should know that it's in the reality. Unfortunately...
