Game crash engine.exe crash, V11 installed, more problems!!

Lost Pirate

Landlubber
I have crash had problems with POC. The game crashes to the desktop with an engine.exe failure, generally when I attempt to go tot he main map leaving an island. However, I have had this happen upon loading a game where I am on land.

I installed build V11 and now it is worse!!!!!! I leave the dock, and there is no ship, no water, no options, just an x and weird textures and a shark swimming in air!!!! There is a long string of numbers, about 20, at the top, I believe they begin with 48.

I have a P4 2.66 w 510 RAM, I am running Radeon 7500 card with integrated sound. Bethesda Tech examined my dxdiag file, and said it was fine.

I uninstalled SP2, as they said it has had conflicts with the game. I also updated my graphics driver, with a suggested one they sent me. This enabled me to play longer, but the game still crashes.

Help!

Ok here's a few suggestions that might help you.

1. Disable `Anti-Aliasing`, this is in the advanced features of your graphics card.
2. Try the Omega drivers for your graphics card. The standard drivers are well known for causing problems with POTC. These drivers can be found here: <a href="http://www.omegadrivers.net/" target="_blank">http://www.omegadrivers.net/</a>
3. Download the latest version of Direct X including any bug fixes that have been released.
4. Close all programs including virus scanners to free up more CPU power and memory.
5. Run the game at the same resoultion as your desktop, unless your desktop is running over 1024x768 in which case reduce your resolution down to 1024x768.

And lastly don't trust Berthesda Tech as they couldn't find their asses with both hands.

Thank you very much!!!

I found out the reason for my build problems...I didn't have a ship, or a crew. Apparently, when I loaded the NON build save, it removed my ship, crew, gold, and all inventory...But I did have my health and my officers.

So...I started a new game with the build, and didn't run into any problems, yet that is.

I downloaded the suggested driver...THANK YOU. But I will wait to see if I encounter problems with the new game before I make changes.

I just want to play the game, I have had it for three days, and have been dealing with troubleshooting and tech issues.

I have to chime in about the Omega drivers, mates. Bloody brilliant, they are! Improved the performance of me system, and allowed for reliable overclocking of the card with no worries. I'll not be using the stock ones again! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Hold the gunwals

Well, lets keep the celabration to a dull roar, V11 didn't solve everything, ....i crashed again. However, I Installed the Omega drivers, whcih enabled me to turn antialiasign down, my previouse software didn't, and for now no more crashes. However, I still have game freezes. Generally these occur in sea battles, which is frustratign sicne I loose so much.

any new ideas?

Turn on error logging, and see if any errors show up.
If not, then I'm afraid it's your card; POTC Does Not Make Nice with ATI cards. :

That's interesting.... I'm running an ATI 9800 Pro XT card (256 MB), and with the Omega drivers (overclocked), I've not has a single glitch, save me own miscalculations in battle. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> But a healthy dose of rum settles that out, eh, mates?
