Game Speed

it is good too see that we all share same concerns, let us hope someone out there (GAME DEVELEPERS, GOd) wiil lisen to our prayer s. Because we are the one who will play and buy their products and not some teen kids or 2yrs.old brats who will play it and forget about it.For someone of us(like me) the original pirates was the reason i play games, they are my first love ( i am emotional wright now) If i dont have any open sea- sailing and normal `game-speed` i will never gona buy any new project from ATari or Sid. We made you and we can destroy you... Hmm, I'm also worried about the speed. I just hope it's some kind of fast forward button or that we can adjust the speed ourselves.
I'm also wondering if that's going to be truly the Game Speed, how will the encounters on the sea work.
If I'm going to cross the whole Caribbean in a minute or so, there can't be much encounters on see. Or maybe we'll have every few seconds one. Both wouldn't be much fun.

I visit Croatia quite often (mainly the Coast of course). I can also speek Croatian quite fluent. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/pirate2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p:" border="0" alt="pirate2.gif" />
Nice People and nice Country.

Had once a trip with a small Pirate Ship there. It was just a small Ship with one mast but it was two years older than the Titanic (it had an engine too in case there is no winfd). And they had a Parrot and a Pirate Crew.
I was sceptic at the beginning (feared it would be just a lame Tourist attraction and sailing a little over the sea) but it was great. We did some crazy things (maybe will post some pictures off the ship and the whole story later here on the forums) and I had a lot fun with the crew there and a lot drinking! It's really great to turn off the engine and just sail over the sea. Never did that before.

No idea, although, I hope they change it (because I think they sure have time to do so) if they have not already.
 
Yes , couple of hourus of career ( they say `6-8` ), you can finish it in one day ,no fun...To bad for the game of that kind of potential.I realy dont know whay is so hard to let player choose if he will play `6-8` hours or 10 days or month,or if he wants fast ships or normal speed ships(..--in `game-options`..--). Maybe will someone say:" but you will play again", so i ask , how fun is to change your caracter every day...starting again every day, and how much time you gona replay it..one -two(in 3 days)... To bad for the game of that kind of potential( if that happens,..who knows maybe they will listen) <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> .. ???

it isnt fun at all thats why we has to get through to Atari so they can change it..

best of all would be if you could choose yor self i fast your want your player to age.....

I have waited for this game for 15 years and I dont want to leave the game behind after one eveninge with it......
 
Only five hours to play a game, that seems unreal. Although it is no comparison, when I play CivIII (another Sid Meier game) it takes me about two weeks to play a game.
 
I think they will expand the time. I believe that an ever changing charater would be a bad thing. It would let the player disconnected from the main charater. I could see many people saying, "I have started from scratch for the thrid time this week." I think in the end you will see a game lasting from `12-20` hours. I also think the sea and land battles will not count time in your career. This leaves town activites or sailing. Since land activities and sailing would have time go by I think this is where the clock will tick away. So if you stayed out at sea all the time you would have a `6-8` hour game. I think some of you are missing the whole point of this game.In reality a pirate had a very limited amount of time to amass enough wealth to retire on. I think `6-8` hours per pirate career runs parallel to that theme.

One thing Sid's games have never lacked in is replay value. Pirates! will be no different. I read in some article there willl be randomly placed native tribes and pirate havens furthering replayibilty. This compounded with multiple time periods, different character specialties(i.e fencing, aiming and sailing), new invetory system, 4 nations to choose from,etc.Equals a different experience everytime you start a new pirating career.

Ok so i sit down and start playing Pirates! at 11:00am. I play 8 hours and my pirate finally gets to old and slow for the pirating life so I retire. My score is then tallied based on the amount of land, gold, wives,etc iI have accumulated throughout my career. Hmm.. I didn't do so well I only managed the rank of peasant upon retiring. Well it's only 7:00pm I have enough time to start a new career and try to restore some of my lost honor.I don't see what all the fuss is about.

If you prefer being impervious to time and sailing around never never land with a pocket full of healing potions than POTC is probably the game for you. Pirates! simply does'nt work without being forced to retire at some point it's not that style of game. However I do think they need to have the option to change game speed while sailing.
