Guys - are there other gameplay options other than following the main quest ?
Just curious at this point .... as I basically just just started Build13
Wondering how close it mirrors Build12.1 ?

Can I just be a Pirate and just wreck havoc on the high seas :)
Or, will that not allow me to finish the game.

Just wondering ... how many ways can you play POTC
------------
Great, I just read the thread on the "side quest ship" and see I could have started with a better ship.
I got "blowed up good" with my dingy of a ship.

Next time around we start with Mephisto :)
------------
Nice job on the new ladies added to the game ... I have a real pretty crew :)

Build 13 is the same as Build 12.1 but with more features and more stuff. Everything that was possible in Build 12.1 is also possible in Build 13. You can play the game as you like. You can join the navy of a country and gain land and ranks by sinking or boarding ships. You can go exploring the islands and see all the fun things that have been added. There are also treaure quests added. Be sure to read the Build 13 ReadMe file in the buildinfo subfolder for a summary of the new features.

or you could just finish the main quest and do anything you wanted to do before you decided doing the main quest! you can stop the mainquest for a while almost any time you like. unless there's a time limit, a quest book entry doesn't give you any duties at all. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/no.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":no" border="0" alt="no.gif" />

Avast!
Whats this here about jining up with somebodys navy. First I did hear of it. How might one sign articles on it, and more import, If"ins it don't go to suit me, what be the consequences of deserting the fleet?
Inquiring pirate-types want to know

Guys - thanks.
I think on this play; I'll do the questing + exploring.

Yes, how does on join a country's navy ? ... I take it then, the pirate islands + hostile islands will be mad at me :)

Is there a way to play a pirate ?
Just attack all nations.
If I remember from 12.1, I blew up a bunch of ships + executed captains ... I think my reputation was "bloody terror or terror on high seas" ... merchants in town wouldn't deal with me, even on QC, the store owner gave me attitude :)
Is it doable to be a blood-thirsty pirate ... I see QC + Turk as pirate islands ... I could just restock up at these islands ?

I guess I'll ask it here; what's the most powerful ship in the game ?
I see the speed + mauervering stats in the ships folder/ships.c ... I may have missed/overlooked the line with "number of guns".
I just bought me a Man of War ... it has 100 guns ... it that the most ... I'm looking for firepower ... since ship handling isn't my forte', I'm more inclined to slug it out :)

Thanks for your help guys.
Time to go exploring+ blow up some ships ... first time out with my Man O War

Can't wait to see what you guys added on these new islands !

ok, this is how it works: you go to the nation's governor, and ask him if you can have a letter of marque. that's it! enemies of that nation wont get angry with you, as they don't know you bought it. you can basically have a letter of marque from all the nations except the pirates. to become a pirate, sail to QC, and talk to the leader. all other nations will become hostile in this case. it gives you something to do when you're bored. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> if you have a letter of marque, all the nations ships will be friendly towards you, and if you destroy enemies of that nation, your relation with the nation you joined will go up. if your relation is high enough, you will get promoted (by talking to the governor. the first promotion is at a relation of 5, altough i think you get promoted at 1 as well.) and get some land that will give you an amount of gold each day. the more land, the more gold you get. eventually, you will be able to marry the governor's daugther, but that takes a lot.

the manowar is indeed the best ship.

If you desert the fleet of a nation, your reputation will take a hit, but you can increase your reputation again by doing good deeds. The nation you deserted will not become at war with you.

A Manowar has the biggest firepower. Whether you consider it to be a good ship depends on the player. Some people might prefer some faster and more manouvrable ships instead.

not to mention that you can sail over thise unsuspecting puny little ships. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> don't bother shooting at little ships, run them over! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Guys - thanks !
I'll try the "nation/governor" on the next playthrough.

I did find the # of guns stat in the ships file.
I went thru the whole list :)

I tried the faster ships, but it seems I get "blowed up" more.
The keystroking gets me into trouble + I play in 3rd person sailing mode ... I tried first person and using the spyglass to get all the facts on the enemy ships, but the running around, getting my bearings got me a little dizzy(...eye strain) :)
So, I just like to slug it out, and "sail to" to the spots I think are best ... the more complicated I make it, the worse I seem to do.

I guess I could just up the speed/turn rate in ships file for my MoW :)
I does turn oh so slow = tough on my shoulder holding down the key ... but I like the firepower !

try learning the quick turn-around ability. you'll eat your words! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> it's actually pretty scary in big ships. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> leaning over that far just can't be good. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /> i have only one word for it: wooohoooo! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" /> what's very fun to do is sail right in a convoy of small enemy ships with your manowar and use quick turnaround. it's absolutely devastating! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" /> it's like riding a clumsy elefant through a porcelin shop. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

I'll try the "nation/governor" on the next playthrough.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
You shouldn't require to start a new game to be able to join a nation. You can join or defect from nations all through the game and it doesn't influence the main quest either. What I like to do is to join a nation early in the game, then play some quests and enjoy myself and every now and then sink some ships enemy to the nation I joined. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

If everything goes too fast for you, enable realistic sailing in the option menu. Everything will go much slower and more realistic then, giving you more time to think about your strategies to take or sink enemy ships or to just escape. If you have a smaller but faster ship, you shouldn't try to take a Manowar by sheer force. You need some strategy then. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />

pah! i be takin' anything any way i like and it works fine for me! i'm just a bit reckless, as i know that i wont be needing the ship i'm using anyway. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> i actually tried ramming a war galleon with a war tartane so i would hopefully get at the right speed and angle to be able to board it. as i had no skills required for a ship whatsoever and was only at level four. for me, it works. for you, i'd not recommend it. yet. i just seem to have jack sparrow's sheer crazy luck. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/jackhat.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":j2" border="0" alt="jackhat.gif" />

Guys - thanks for the help.
Merry Christmas to you guys.

Yeah, I play by brute force; we won't be using any dingy ships :)

I tried faster ships and the MoW ... the MoW suits my style of play
I quit at the Rheims quest ... just fought all night long ... went out to sea, put up the pirate flag and attacked everyone ... whomever the sadistic person is, who put six #1 ships in a fight, is just plain evil :) ... took me 40 minutes to get through that battle
I deduced from my encounters, France, England and Holland offered the most encounters + the more #1/#2 ship types ... not sure if that is normal or just randomness of my game/play ?
So, I,m going to sign up with Holland ... I couldn't find a nation who had hated all 3 (...except Pirates) ... I take it, Douwesen is where I can find the ol' gov ?

This time I'm going to try doing all 3: fighting for Holland, treasure questing and main quest.
And build that house ... mentioned when I played Build12.1

To the person in the damsels in distress thread : yeah, the black leather babe with the rose tattoo is a keeper :)
I hightail it to QC to get her outfit.
We need more outfits like that in the next build + Beatrice's "other clothes" ... my two favorite skins; pun intended

On the treasure quests + new islands + town additions ... I see you guys like tress/shrubs etc; I feel like I'm in the Amazon :)

Thanks guys.

HAHAHAHAHA! Morgan mate, you just made my day! i needed a laugh like that!
how about an MOW sized, VERY clumsy elephant going through a glass factory? want a similar result? mod the gun reload speeds in build settings and Internal settings to 0.000001!
i guarantee you'll have the queen mother of all explosions! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

oooooh, now THAT'S a good idea! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /> what would make this really fun is the fact that i have the particle effects and the cannon effects maxed out. get yer iron umbrella's lads! it's going to rain iron an' wood! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

first mate smithey said: 'it's raining cannonballs!' unfortunatly, he was right. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

lol..too true...but then, without the speed, i dont think you'll be able to catch me in The Black Pearl....32 pound Long Guns, 25 knot speed, and 45 manouverability....im nigh uncatchable... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/jackhat.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":j2" border="0" alt="jackhat.gif" />

oh really? i'm VERY skilled with my pirate designed fast schooner you know...i once tried boarding a pirate corvette with it with no boarding skills at all. i must say, that was one of the finest pieces of maneuvering that i ever saw! even though i say it myself. i didn't take a single hit! the last minutes of closing are often the most dangerous, especially in this case because i hadn't damaged it at all. this time, i approached it from the rear. but one time, i had to board a war galleon with a pirate designed schooner MM. now, that might not seem very difficult, but it sure is when you're trying to board it while sailing ahead of it! that was terrifying! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" /> he constantly made quick turns to the left and right, and as i had no boarding skills, i had to line up perfectly. those sides are pretty impressive in such a small ship. i did manage to get it, but that was a fine display of steering, says i!

lol...try doing it in a Gunboat...then you know how i handle little things lately....
trying to board Bellete in a Gunboat, from the starboard side of her is what i call one hell of a nightmare...along with those wretched Frigates...it was nearly impossible...

when i finally got there, and actually captured the bloody thing, everything went easy. sank both frigates, and destroyed the fort, then left...

i wonder if nelson (no, not you) ever considered doing that. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />
