Long time lurker first time poster!

I have submitted a cleaned up version of the "aop map by fop.jpg" that doesn't have the mouse cursors and player location on it as a introduction gift. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" /> You can find this on the Pirates Ahoy FTP and attached to this post. Anyone who as any artwork project requests feel free to let me know. My specialty is 3D graphics but I dabble a little bit in the 2 dimensional occasionally. Now some questions. I've played POTC a bit and found Age of Pirates to be exactly what I was looking for. A few things are irritating me about this game that I would like some help with though.

First off... my crew can't hit the broad side of a barn with a bucket of paint from a foot away even when I aim for them. If they miss in the first shot (which they do) they blow up half my cannons making it even MORE difficult to hit said barn with said bucket of paint. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

Ship battles work like this for me: Board them or I get sunk... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />

That brings up another question... melee combat. Dispatching the crew is no problem but holy crap if I let a single hit through from the captian I'm next to dead. A "WTF" is in order. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/duel_pa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ixi" border="0" alt="duel_pa.gif" />

Lastly... if I do let the crew aim for themselves is it possible to select a specific target when there are more than one enemies or do they just spray and pray?

Hopefully the patch will balance some of these things out but I wonder... how did it make it all the way to 1.4 in this state? I love the game don't get me wrong it's quickly become one of my favorites.

By the way, does anyone know why the resolution looks so low while post processing is on even though it is actually running at 1280x1024 via a tweaked config? It is really 1280x1024 (I checked) and even the text looks nice, small and sharp but the 3D rendering is very pixelated. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />
 
well it seems to me that 1280x1024 isnt really supported, i tried it too and it does look like shit.

as for your canons, your crew will gain experience over time, also try to get an officer that has a much higher accuracy and cannon skills than you, and assign him as your gunner, this will help you considerably. also make shure to upgrade to iron cannons, anything less is shit.

The enemey captain needs no rebalancing, unlike silly PoTC where all you had to do was block and attack this game requires skills, both in skill points and personal skill. trying to stick to blocking will get you killed for shure, you have to block, parry, feint and dodge his attacks and make shure your every attack hits him.

I've solved this by turning off post processing... 1280x1024 looks great but I can't really tell what the post processing does anyways. What does it do?
 
post processing is beleived to be a slight minor bloom effect/HDR lighting or something like that.
 
How do you get HDR in a game that doesn't use SM 2.0 let alone 3.0. I think Akella is just over using old technology(DX8? SM 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 ?).

Boy would i enjoy a Storm Engine 3.0 with SM 3.0 true HDR... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/william.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":will" border="0" alt="william.gif" />

I'd have to disagree with you - it requires absolutely no skill in my opinion (as in true skill, not points). You put points on luck and melee, and youre done - youll get some nice pistols and swords in no time at all, and then it is just about firing all the bullets before the guy gets close and then unloading a few heavy attacks on him. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />
