Good standing with pirates...

So...

In queb... que... The pirate town, there's a guy you can talk to in the tavern to "fix" your relations with all of the various nations, for a price...

But how can you "fix" your relations with the pirates? Is this even possible? Because, see what happened was, somehow (through NO fault of my own *Wink*) My reputation dropped to where no one would deal with me but the pirates, so I figure well fine, to the locker with all you b**tards, I'm gonna go pirate full-time.

Only the pirates don't seem to like me very much... And I really don't like hobbling back to... 'the pirate town' just to have my jolly roger seen through and get sunk by the very people I'm depending on for everything from supplies to repairs... Anyway, you get what I'm saying, right? How do I get the pirates to like me?

EDIT: Okay I looked through pages and pages of old topics and I found you cannot ever get your relations with the pirates above 0 but how do you even get them that high? Right now I'm at about -115 or so and I haven't attacked a pirate ship in a looong time. So further edit: How do I get the pirates to NOT HATE ME? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Thanks in advance!

P.S. Hey the forum remembers me from years ago! Even I forgot about my old login. That's cool! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Nice seeing you again. Welcome back. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />
The pirate nation is rather underdeveloped. What you can do is get your fame high enough and then talk to the QC pirate leader, but I'm not sure how well that works. At one point we should allow the player to properly join the pirates, because right now it's not very impressive. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

that older topic should have shown you how, actually. just select 'hoist flag' in the 'enter' menu at sea when pirates are around. keep an eye on the top left of the screen when you do.

Thanks. Yeah I can't seem to stay away from this game for long. Every time a new build comes out I come crawling back. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> Not that that's a bad thing!
And as far as joining the pirates goes, is it not possible to just raise the cap on pirate relations without having to write a whole bunch of new code? That's really all it would take, as long as there is a way to raise your relations with them.

<!--quoteo(post=235679:date=Feb 3 2008, 03:38 PM:name=Morgan Terror)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Morgan Terror @ Feb 3 2008, 03:38 PM) <a href="index.php?act=findpost&pid=235679"><{POST_SNAPBACK}></a></div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->that older topic should have shown you how, actually. just select 'hoist flag' in the 'enter' menu at sea when pirates are around. keep an eye on the top left of the screen when you do.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
No, either the topic I looked at didn't mention that or I in my infinite distractedness missed it. So I should NOT be flying the jolly roger all the time then? Just raise it when the pirates are around? Okay, as soon as I finish fixing breakfast I'm going to try that. Thanks for the tip!

You can't get the relations with any of the other nations above 0 either, I think, unless you get a LoM. Only you can't actually get a pirate LoM.

Okay well I did that and it changed my relations with the pirates from -119 to -60 again which is a good start if nothing else. Afterwards I went to another battle, hoisted the flag again and nabbed me a french merchant ship, but I don't know if that furthered my relations again because shortly after going to the world map, BAM! crash to desktop. Grrrr. But that's a story for another topic. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Anyone know for a fact that doing this repeatedly will continue to raise pirate relations above -60?

Meantime, I'll just try again. Later. When the urge to gnaw on the PotC disk passes. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Yeah and a pirate LoM wouldn't really make sense would it... Maybe it should stay that way, I mean it's not as if the pirate boss would or should be able to grant you lands and title, that's not really the pirate way.

What would be really great would be to just add the option through the "relation adjuster guy" in the tavern to "fix" your relations with the pirates the same as you can "fix" your relations with any other nation. Or if you could just bribe the pirate boss to call off his dogs, with the same end result.

Methinks that's a good idea.

Why doesn't somebody of you try to do it? Have a look at <i>RelationAgent_dialog.c</i> to see how it's done. And the QC pirate boss' file is <i>Isenbrandt Jurcksen_dialog.c</i>.

Perhaps it would be better if you could duel Isenbrandt Jurcksen and become pirate king with a relation of 100 or something. Then you could only trade or buy ships from pirate settlements unless you could sneek into other towns under false colors.

Sounds like fun. I wouldn't mind if somebody put that ingame. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

can someone explain what DLG_TXT does, and how i should do it? i have currelntly added

<div class='codetop'>CODE</div><div class='codemain' style='height:200px;white-space:pre;overflow:auto'> if(GetRMRelation(PChar, PIRATE) < REL_AMNESTY) // RM - if(GetNationRelation2MainCharacter(PIRATE) == RELATION_ENEMY)
{
Link.l6 = DLG_TEXT[16];
Link.l6.go = "Pirate"; </div>

and

<div class='codetop'>CODE</div><div class='codemain' style='height:200px;white-space:pre;overflow:auto'> case "Pirate":
iNation = GetNationTypeByName(Dialog.CurrentNode);
sNation = iNation;
Pchar.quest.Relations.nation = iNation;
Pchar.quest.Relations.sum = RMAmnestyCost(PChar, iNation) * 1.5;
Dialog.snd = "voice\REDI\REDI015";
d.Text = DLG_TEXT[48] + ShowMoney(-sti(Pchar.quest.Relations.sum)) + DLG_TEXT[49];
Link.l1 = DLG_TEXT[50];
if(GetCharacterMoney(PChar) < 0-makeint(Pchar.quest.Relations.sum))
{
Link.l1.go = "No_money";
}
else
{
Link.l1.go = "Agreed";
}
Link.l2 = DLG_TEXT[51];
Link.l2.go = "exit";
break;</div>

in <i>RelationAgent_dialog.c</i> and i have made some minor changes to the .h file as well. anyhow, it doesn't work... HELP anyone?

DLG_TEXT[16] refers to the 16th line of dialog text in the accompanying .h file. What doesn't work? You get a "Can't load dialog file" error message when trying to talk to the nation agents? I recommend <a href="http://forum.piratesahoy.net//index.php?showtopic=9234" target="_blank">enabeling error logging</a>, then talk to him again, then open the error.log that will be generated in your main game folder. There should be a clue as to what's wrong in there.
