governor mission / meet person in enemy city

Landlubber
I wonder how to solve one of the first governor missions. One has to meet a person in an enemy town and to receive a letter or such like. Like it is stated this mission can only be successfull if you will not be detected by the (enemy) city guards. This seems impossible, with even at night many guards patrolling the streets. I couldnt never avoid a fight with at least one guard. The Stealth ability that early in the game will be around 10. Have I overseen something?

Savescumming is the answer here. Just keep reloading until they let you pass without initiating combat.

You save your game. You try. You fail. You reload. Repeat until succeed.

Ah, lol, yeah, gotcha <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Mission completed, if you deliver the letter. The fact that you will be discovered patrol does not matter. Go to the town at night. Go to the tavern, avoiding the patrol. Sleep until the morning. Take the letter and go out of town. Guard gate will discover you. Weapons in the sheath and leaves.

Buy trader licence

Buy a map of the region and anchor in a secluded bay near the city. Wait till midnight and enter the city. Avoid the guards (save & reload).
Rest in the tavern untill morning and go to the person who is supposed to give you the letter. Run!
That's the way how I deal with these kind of quests and though it can't compete with Thief, it is still interesting.

i find the best way to do these missions is go to a pirate settlement and talk to a diplomat ,he will sell you a licence for any country that lets you enter without being attacked

The diplomat usually doesn't offer discount prices. How much per license?
The governor usually offers 8000 for such a mission and I have to pay the crew+officers, too.

It would depend on how many of those missions you do in a given length of game time, the trade license is usually good for something like 60 or 90 days.

So if you do that quest a bunch of times in the amount of time the trade license lasts, it could very well wind up paying for itself.

Cap'n Drow

Forget missions as a source of income, you only get a pittance. Go out, capture a bunch of ships, bring them in, load them with cargo, make a trade run, sell the cargo, sell the ships. Rinse and repeat. Tons of money to be made that way, particularly if you manage to get a big ship and haul a lot of expensive cargo at once. Once you have a few million you can put the money in a bank and live off the interest.
As for sneaking, just don't do it until you get a bunch of trinkets that boost the sneaking skill. Right now I have a total of +60, in addition to my 15 or so, and sneaking is a breeze most of the time.
