So, what is the actual command to start the mod tool? Or is there even a tool you can start ala Sea Dogs and POTC?

Has anyone put together some kind of a FAQ or guide on modding for AOP yet?

Anyhow,

Cap'n Drow

That's an excellent Idea. I have been wanting to learn how to mod, myself.

Well, I did finally find the command to start the built-in editor for Seadogs and Pirates of the Caribbean, sadly it seems Akella did away or changed the command needed to start the editor. Gonna have to find out what the new command is.

Just for everyones info, if you have the original Seadogs or Pirates of the Caribbean(Technically Seadogs 2, but snapped up by Disney at a time when they wanted more PR for the movie), you can edit the engine.ini

Add to it at the very top this following line:

CORE_MODULE tools_launcher

Start the game.

You should start up in an editing mode, that allows you to do all kinds of interesting things.

Hope this helps someone find the newer internal editing tools if they exist at all.

I posted your earlier post about the editor on the POTC forums....."giving you proper Credit tew be sure....hehehe"

Turns out nobody on the POTC forums has ever heard tell of an Editor to use with POTC either....

Are you sure of your information as so far what you posted above does not work with Pirates Of The Caribbean. Perhaps only Seadogs maybe...... Do not get me Wrong.....I hope and Pray that this were true, and we did have an editor... But all attempts at making this load have not worked so far...

Could you perhaps double check your findings and get back to me here..

Did we mispell something....?
Did you jump to conclusions and Assume that this worked with POTC? ( I hope not)

Anything would be grand help.....

I'll reinstall PotC shortly here just so I can test, but I do seem to remember being able to get into that editor at some point. I dredged this info up from some old editing info I had, and its been quite awhile since I messed with Seadogs or PotC. Was so excited about this game that I kind of dropped the others to the wayside waiting for this one. **winks**

I'll try to have more info about it later today or tomorrow at the latest.

Thanks alot Matey.....I really hope it does work, and that nobody knew about it up til now. The "lads" over at the POTC forums would go nuts if it did have, and maybe it is just that the "Old Guard" that might have known are all gone now. Also I have AOP as well, but fear that it will take some time too get it too work as well as the current Build has reached with POTC. Time will tell of course.....so far from what I have seen so far, besides Multiplayer which although nice, seems to be the extent of the positive changes, seems they Hid or Starforced protected everything else sooo no one will ever be able to make it as good as it should have been.

Aye, that code werks fer Sea Dogs, played that game a fair bit, never thought ter try it with POTC, Don't think it'l werk though,I might be wrong <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

wonder if back then there was an Editor that could be downloaded or added after the game was released...but has some how gotten lost in obscurity since then.......would not that be wild....

wonder if the editor for Seadogs also worked for POTC?

the possibilities are endless.....of course, it is just that <b>Cap'n_Drow</b> sounded soooo sure of it, and I thought .....WOW!!!

hope he still is right!!

It is not that the stock game unfortunately was a huge hit.....there were some old forums that have gone by the wayside as well.

P.S. In an offtopic thing sort of......I have never played Seadogs....might like too though, but heard about Crashes that rendered game useless or unplayable.....then the mod that made it all better, also stopped working at a certain time......what can you guys tell me,??? Should I play, if so, what mods, no mods, advice please.....

Thanks
Brian

Okay, just got finished reinstalling Seadogs and PotC. The line I quoted above does work for Seadogs. Brings up an interface that has editing tools for modifying the character, NPC's, Ships and a whole lot more. Sadly it did NOT work for PotC. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

I do know that there should be some kind of editor in there, probably hidden away in the files that we just need to find. But then again, I could be wrong.

As I remember though, the modding community for PotC was quite creative and very lively, so I'm sure we'll be able to do everything for AOP that has been done for PotC. Just need to figure out whats what again. **grins**

I'll keep looking, if I suddenly have a 'Eureka!!!!' moment, I'll let you all know.

Now, as far as Seadogs is concerned. Really fun game, especially as an example of the earliest version of the Storm Engine. Akella did a bang up job on it, but the newer revision is a much prettier animal. As just a couple of examples in the models department. Seadogs cannon's are just painted onto the sides of the ships, rather than having the cannon models and open ports for them in PotC & AoP.

Still, an over all blast to play, with a fairly extensive story you can follow, as well as a huge number of mods for it that have been developed over the years.

Well worth a gander at if for no other reason that to get a comparison of the tech just 6 to 8 years back compared to today.

Cap'n Drow

Shoot!!!!

Bang!

Well Thanks mate for trying that...so much for wishful thinking....wonder did you drop the editor into POTC...wonder if it would have been compatable

Anyway Thanks heaps Cap'n_Drow

I was actually kind of thinking about experimenting with exactly that. Might be an interesting experiment to say the least. **grins**

May very well be that for release time, BethSoft & Playlogic each requested the editing tools(which are just some .dll files) be removed from the final game.

Just my two cents worth. I'm poking around and seeing what I can find out.

I'll keep you all informed of what I discover.

Cap'n Drow

Edit: Okay, just poking at the Modules folder alone, I've discovered that PotC & AoP are almost exactly the same, with ONE exception. AoP seems to have a new .dll file called GameUtils.dll..... Maybe the editing tools perhaps? Any real code guru's wanna decompile that sucker and see what it might be? **hint, hint** Possibly even something that'd be useful to PotC modders? **grins**
