Guns reloading & Spotting ships at sea

Hi guys,

I was wondering I missed important info on the following:

1. Playing with auto pistol reload set to off, is there a way to recharge pistols "manually" ? or do I just have to wait the end of the battle ?

2. And much more importantly, before engaging a fight is there a way to know how much ships a fleet have, and what kind of ships ? (like in the old Sid Meyer Pirates series)

Hi guys,

at starting a new game you can choose Auto reload pistols...then after shooting the pistol will be load in battle (reloading time depends on the weapon)...if you didn't choose Auto reload pistols it is like in real life... ;) you need two free hands to reload a weapon...in game this means you have to hide your sword

2. And much more importantly, before engaging a fight is there a way to know how much ships a fleet have, and what kind of ships ? (like in the old Sid Meyer Pirates series)

if you press space there appears a screen which shows you the numer of ships and the kind of the ships (merchant, patrol, bounty hunters...)

its sth. like that: :keith ...you are sailing and at the horizon you see a :sail but its far away and you can't specify what kind of vessel you are seeing...

Ok thx I didnt know about the pistol reloading thing, gonna definitely resort to that.

Regarding the description of ships, I did know that, but according to the description you dont know if the escort for example is a Man of War or a Sloop, and if the merchant is a Lugger or a Pinnace.

So in fact, everytime you engage a party you don't really know what you are facing. There should be maybe a kind of threat rating. (Huge fleet ahead, "nothing to worry about", etc...)

2. And much more importantly, before engaging a fight is there a way to know how much ships a fleet have, and what kind of ships ?
is important to remember that when you meet a fleet on the map and you save-reload, the number of ship is fixed, but every time change the type of ship (within certain min / max class).
I then save-reloading to obtain the desired enemy.

Well that's a nice trick, but If you play on hardcore you cant save/reload at sea, and also you still have a sense of cheating which I am not comfortable with...

mhh...didn't test it but if you see on world map only a sloop then this means that there are only light ships...not shure :shrug

but on world map you have different kinds of ships: sloop, bark, galleon, frigate and man o war. every kind will spawn ships with difference strength...but I don't know how I have the values in encouters_init.c to interprete. I can only say that the bigger the ships...the more ships will appear.

EDIT:
it seems to m that you want to play hardcore...so be happy...it would be really easy if you know everything before it happens

Eh eh eh... very true! :bow
But i no play on hardcore; and this "expedient" (no cheat!) is typical and allowed in the Role-playing game. Is necessary to optimize results.
Naturally if you want to play with the "suspense" and the random/hazard, you no make save/reload... :shrug
I do not like to battle and capture any 1st or 2st class, I want to catch a man-o-war... :eek:ops2
