Gunsmoke idea.

Commodore John Paul Jones

Commodore in the Continental Navy
Storm Modder
What if the streaks of balls were added? In the movies Master & Commander and especially Pirates 3, when the great guns fire, you can see a sort of streak of smoke or something as the ball screams towards its target. What if a new detail was added to Merciless Mark's Cannon FX mod that used gunsmoke effects that were really fast, thin, and long to give the cannonball streaking effect?

What say all of you to this? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I think that's a great idea! but by the sound of it, it may cause performance problems, but then, I don't know. that would be a nice feature, though.

well, it would be nice, but i'm pretty sure that my computer can't handle it. what if it would only be active with maximum particle effects? (last setting in the buildsettings)

I agree performance is an issue, thou im not sure how possible it is because some of the stuff regarding cannon shot is hardcoded. But i dont think there is alot of realism in that, even in M&C most of the cannon shots were not streaking, and i never use the PoTC movies as a frame of reference since they are basicly hollywood glory.

Aye, I just felt that they way they shot cannons in AWE looked cool and full of action. Perhaps if we coded it for every third gun of something... so we don't have 50 streaks comming from a first ate or something. I probably should have mentioned this in my original post. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

We were able to change the cannonballs' movement from arc to straight and leves, so if we could put some sort of locator or something on each ball that would "hook the smoke fx" and "pull it along"... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Aye, that'be the question: do we want our cannon shots lookin' realistic or cool? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

i prefer my connanball impacts to look like they where filled with high explosives. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> so mine's cool for sure.

me thinks its time for another toggleble option, but i dont think it would look good, it would require too many particles for the trail to actually look decent, i noticed this particularly when developing CannonFX that too many particles slow things down.

Aye. And we wouldn't want a slow game, eh? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
If only there was something, something that would randomly spit our a streak every now and then. Then it wouldn't slow down so much because there would only be one or two for a whole broadside. You might even go a whole battle without seeing one.
