Hats for Thomas!

Hey Thomas - did you want me to use your full screen name? I wasn't sure, and if I've been offending you - please do let me know - I didn't think about it until just now. Anyways - I can now officially convert from .gm to .wrl to .obj which I can edit in maya, AND I can export to .wrl, and then to .gm.

So let's get a bit further on these hats. I've saved one of every character model that has a hat in AOP, POTC is next. I have two questions for you.

1) how do you want these hats saved? as .gm, or .wrl? I guess it depends what you are using to combine them to new bodies and stuff.

2) how do you want me to get them to you? Do you think that others might be interested in these? should I try to figure out this fangled FTP thing so that the rest of hte community can grab 'em too? or is this a pretty specific thing that would be a waste of space if it was stored somewhere?

I'm going to start cutting up these models now - later!

GM please. And if you want to upload your stuff, create a FILEFRONT account, that is how I upload my stuff.

Thanks in advance man!

Alright Thomas - I converted one first just to make sure that what I'm doing is what you were looking for. For some reason the direction in which the model is oriented is really changed somehwere in the four pieces of software I use to get it to .gm for you - but the model is still there hahaha. I hope this works for you man! Oh- and for my ease, I changed the orientation in maya 180 degrees around the body, and then 90 degrees head to toe. It's just a lot easier for me to manipulate it that way. if this caused a problem, let me know, and I can repeat these steps to hopefully keep the model in the same orientation. good luck!

lol by the way - I completely forgot that I had a filefront account. Hope this works!

no problem man - I just wanted to know that it worked before doing it for the rest. I'll just grab all of them. I might as well - you never know who might need them.

Did it work for you?

Alright Thomas! I've uploaded all of the AOP hats for you. You never did tell me whether or not they are working for whatever it is you needed them for, or if they worked. I can do POTC too - but before I put a bunch of time into it, I really do want to make sure that what I'm doing is working for you. Enjoy! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

oh - and sorry for the names - I wasn't sure how what to call them, so I described them the best that I could.

I tried, but I couldn`t get it on his head! It was lying in front of the model! So if you could be so kind, could you try to leave the hat on the place he sat, so horizontally?

lol that was my original worry - I only found out about changing the x<->y option after I started the hats. If you don't check that when you export it to vrml 2.0, for some reason your hat - or whatever you are exporting ends up in front of the skeleton instead of on top of it.

What happens if you go into scene>edit scene, and then click rotate z axis button 4x and x axis 2x times. Then use the sliders underneath to put it on top of the head. I know that you can move it that way - but does it serve what you needed to do? I'll do the POTC ones tonight, and change export while reversing x and y, but for these ones I'm curious if you'll be able to get it working. if not - I will definately do it again. Thanks for the feedback <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

no, it doesnt work, the problem is, the hat is pointing in the air, it should be horizontally. like it is on the head. I tried it, but it doesn`t work. if you click it just turns around.

But you can save it.

lol - nono - you can adjust it in edit scene - but that's okay I'll do it again. Tonight I'm cleaning up my animation, and then tommorow I'm out on a... actually I really don't know what to call it. but anyways, I'll get it to you soon. sorry about that!

no... like a date? maybe? I'm not sure what to call it - it completely threw me off. I wasn't expecting it at all. and despite drawing the front and side views I haven't gotten to the body yet. BUT I have dug up a bunch of tutorials and I have been studying how to make it to the polygons flow the best that I can. My goal of finishing the body this week is coming closer to the end... must.. model... must!

I know in edit scene, but it won`t work! it just turns around. If you succeed in it that way, try to save it, and put that one up, please.

YESSSS!!!

I'm extremely glad to hear it Thomas! Also - I'm excited for what you come up with it. I will definately grab you the rest of the POTC hats, prioritizing the ones you requested. Sorry that I've been gone for a bit - I've had some crazy stuff going on in my personal life/school life.
