Help / Bugs?

Hi All, Really enjoying Build 13 but just haveing a few problems:

1. How do you use your spyglass. I know pressing tab brings me to the deck and looking over it a circle appears but I cant seem to zoom in very far (just from left and right mouse button clicking).

2. It seems my officers skills only apply if I select them in my group. The trouble with that is they get killed too easily if I run into a swordfight. Having them as passengers appears to be useless but please correct me if I am wrong.

3. My rep doesnt seem to be improving at all despite the fact I'm sinking heaps of ships for the governor and rescuing damsels in distress etc. Plus I donated heaps of dosh to the church. Is this a new feature of build 13 or just a bug?

4. And releasing pirates from the deck doesnt seem to work 100% of the time. I told them I'd let them go once we reached a pirate island. Got to Cabre Quintilas (or whatever its called) and only some left. The others remained? (And yes I walked up to them and it still says they'll go ashore as soon as we reach a pirate island.

Thanks.

If you are in 1st person sailing mode, you should press Ctrl to use the spyglass.

At the moment that is correct. We want to give officers that are not in your group play a role in the game as well. One thing they ARE useful for is when you capture a ship and you need a captain for it. To prevent officers from being killed, give them potions, better weapons, armor and try to increase their fighting skills. You can give officers new items by pressing Enter when facing them and using the Exchange option. You can increase officers' skills in the F2 character menu.

Why did your reputation drop at all? Usually I don't have much trouble increasing my reputation. Just talk to people in town and when they ask for some money, give them some and when you are given the choice to pick their pockets, tell them their wallet is sticking out of their pocket. Also playing certain quests will increase your reputation.

Sail to the port until the anchor icon shows up, then go to your ship's deck and talk to them. There should be an option to release them then. Please tell me if that does or doesn't work.

If your officers get killed on boardings too often, talk to each of the officers, "about you" and tell them to sit out the next boarding. They will not board with you until you tell them othwise in the same dialog. You still get crewmen boarding in this case.

Thanks Guys! As for the releasing of pirates it appears not to work. I actually "released" them or told them I was going to, some time before and they have been sitting in my deck ever since. Going up to them once docked at the pirate island doesnt seem to work.

I an earlier version releasing captives was a two step process. You tell them you are releasing them sail to a home port for them and release them. If you are in a home port when you tell them you have to go to sea and return and then go to the hold to release them. I don't recall if you have to actually talk to them again or not.

Might some of his captives have nation other than Pirate?

I know that there is dialog that says they'll be released as soon as they arrive at QC.
But might that be generic dialog, and some would actually have to be released at other islands?

For all I know the nation of the island he mentions should match his own nation, so that it should work. I am not at all sure if it actually does though. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

I never thought of that - releasing them to their "nationality". In the end I chopped them all up as they were just taking up space. Whoaa hahahaha!

Could you do us a favor?

If you have a save from before you err ... ahh ... chopped them up, could you load it and try taking them to an island of their nationality to see if they get released?

Yes, I reloaded an earleir game and found out that they do in fact get released if you release them at an island of their nationality. Had some difficulty working out what nationality one of them was but guessed correctly as spanish, given his name.
