HELP!! Build 13 Update 2 Problem (i think)

Celtoi 937

Sailor
Okay here's the story:
I installed stock Potc and proceeded with the mods, I got an abnormal termination error on startup. I guessed that I installed incorrectly (as I have done before) and started agin from scratch. Still didn't work. I tried many times, probably about ten times just in the last six hours. On my last try, I went through the process like the following:

Installed Stock Potc; Tested it; it worked.
Installed the pre-13 base; tested it, it worked.
Installed build 13 full; it worked.
Installed build 13 update 3; tested it, resulted in abnormal termination error on engine.exe startup.

So, I thought I would turn on the error report generator function thingy so I could see what went wrong.
I CAN"T EDIT THE PROGRAM TEXT FILES!!
Well, okay, I can edit them, but I cannot save the changes I make. My computer says that it can't create the file... blah blah blah.
I'm running it on a new laptop computer with the following stats:

Dell inspiron 1720
Window's Vista Home Premium
Intel Core2 Duo CPU T5250 @ 1.50GHz
2.00 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS

My account on the computer is set up as an administrator so I SHOULD be able to edit program files right? I think that Vista is not recognising me as an administrator. Maybe? Idk. But even if I find a way to fix the build. I can't edit BuildSettings.h or InternalSettings.h or any of the other cool editable files.
In short, my computer capsized and I need a life raft.
Thanks for the advice!

EDIT: I meant Build 13 Update 3 not 2 Srry

EDIT:Okay I got it to work up to 13.0.1.2. But I still can't save the changes I make in BuildSettings.h or InternalSettings.h

AGH! I've heard that reported once before an have not the slightest idea in the world why it's not letting you edit those files. It works just fine on my Vista. What about: You open the file, edit it, save it under a different filename, then copy it over your original file?

I am wondering if Windows User Account Control has anything to do with it. That is the "functionality" in Windows Vista that asks you "are you sure?" for virtually everything you do. I was SO happy when I found out how to turn it off. Search your Control Panel for the setting to turn it off. Perhaps that helps.

I got that error to ..... But i´ve installed everything from 12.1 to 13 full in this order: (http://www.moddb.com/mods/9269/potc-build-mod/downloads)

Install 12.1 upp to 13 full than it worked for me <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

BUt now i got the same prolem <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" /> But now it´s with 14 alpha 6... I get that error to:( <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

When I try install the 14 alpha 6 I extrakt the .rar file to POTC file and run: "runme.bat",,,,,,, When i run it Everything gets denied

It says to every file it try copy: acces denied :S

Yeah well, I can't get Alpha 6 to work, unfortunately, but I can get up to 13.
As far as editing buildsettings.h and such, I googled it, and after looking for awhile, I found an old post in Vista Forums that gave a couple solutions to the problem.
The first thing they suggested was kinda like Pieter suggested. If you open the file edit it, then save it in one of your "personl files" (ie. Documents, Pictures, etc any of the files under your account name.) You cannot "save" anything into program files but you can save it in your documents. You can then move it over into Program Files/Bethesda Softworks/Pirates of the Caribbean and into the proper game directory. It's an annoying process, but it works.
The other solution they gave made absolutely no sense to me. They gave some long explanation about doing something or other to turn this feature off. I tried for an hour to follow this advice and could not find what they were describing. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bookish.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mm" border="0" alt="bookish.gif" />
So, right now the only problem I have is that I can't get alpha 6 to work right. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dp_nogd.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ng" border="0" alt="dp_nogd.gif" /> But at least I can play up to build 13. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/type_1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":nk" border="0" alt="type_1.gif" />
Thanks a lot for the help.

Did you change anything in build settings before you actually started playing for the first time? I did and i had the error, then i set everything back to default and it worked, and try to use the engine in the pirates of the caribbean map.

Hope i helped=)
