HELP!!! - Can't capture ships any more!!!

After a few months of play (in game time of course), I accepted a letter from French
Governor. Immediately I was intercepted by Dutch (at the time in war with French)
penile expedition - 3 Warships!!! After a long battle and heavy loses on both sides (I
lost 2 War galleys and managed to sink 1 and heavy damaged another Dutch warship) I
attacked and captured the remaining Dutch warship.
Now I have a warship and the game is quite easy for me I can attack whoever I want but I
can't capture their ships. No meter how many ships I have in my fleet, even with only
the warship, I never get the option to capture the enemy ship after successful battle
- the option is always grey.
I think that maybe it has something to do with my level but I don't understand what
(Maybe I have to be above level 10 to have a warship). I can't seem to capture even a
brig. I am level 10 and my tactical level is 6 so that is not the problem because I
think can have 3 additional ships in my fleet beside mine.
SO WHAT IS THE PROBLEM??? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

I have the exact same problem -hahaha, I actually posted somethinb about this a few days ago. One thing that we both have in common though, is the fact that we both have ships that are above our skill to captain. I now have a theory that maybe, just maybe you aren't allowed having multiple ships at once if your skill level is too low for the ship you are using. Just a theory though - I'll have to test it out sometime.

Heretik I think you are right. I have some red (decreased numbers) skills as penalty which means that I command a ship beyond my abbilities!!! BUT WHAT LEVEL DO I NEED TO BE TO COMMAND A WARSHIP???? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Thanks to all of you I somehow solved the problem. I sold all the ships, all the cargo, dissmissed all the officers, kept only the warship, became level 11 and now everything is OK. I can capture ships again and what LUCK my first test was a Dutch Frigate which is mine now <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

Capn' Drow said something about the officer's level being taken into account too - I'm not sure if he/she meant their tactics skill, or their level though.

If you check the manual, its says something about the effects of officers being to modify your skill according to the difference between yours and his. I'm wondering if something similar happens when you give an officer his own command. Maybe each ship commander DOES need to have points added to thier Tactics skill, Heretik. But I'm not entirely sure. I'd say we are over all on to something of how the game works here though.
