ferg_stallion

Landlubber
hey, i've just got the game and have installed it. The game starts to run wth the Storm Engine 2 screen coming up and then the game title screen comes up. I can get into the options and view the credits but when i try and start a new game it goes to the load screen then goes black and finally dissapears leaving me back at the desktop. I've `re-installed` it three times and still nothing. The game is being run on my Tiny laptop and the Directx is 9.0 b aparently, sorry for my complete lack of knowlege. Any help would be great as I realy want to play this game!!!!

Give us some details about your system on your laptop, video card, how much memory on it, how much RAM do you have, what kind of processor...

We'll see what we can conjure up to help! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

okay I dont know what half of this stuff means and dont have a clue if it's what you guys are wnating but hey I tried.
Okay my laptops using an Intel Inside Celeron Processor CPU 2.4 GHz, I've got 34.5 GB on my hard drive, i'm not sure about the video card but does any of this make sense to you guys, SIS 661Fx_760_741_M661Fx_M760_M741 and then 64.0MB.
thank you, you guys are great. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

oh yeah also 192 MB RAM. Cheers again. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/pirate2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p:" border="0" alt="pirate2.gif" />

any ideas? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bookish.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mm" border="0" alt="bookish.gif" />

Ferg, check to see you have the most `up-to`-date drivers for your video card; that may help. <a href="http://download.sis.com/" target="_blank">http://download.sis.com/</a> Also if you can turn off `anti-aliasing` that may also help.

Nope,no other programs are running. just downloaded the latest drivers and still no luck although it does seem to load for slightly longer before cutting back to the desktop. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":c" border="0" alt="mad.gif" />

okay found out what `anti-aliasing` is but how do i go about turning it off, any ideas? is there any chance it could be a faulty disk?

Shouldn't be a faulty disk that causes this problem. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> I'm sorry I'm not familiar enough with your video card to know what to tell you to do on the `anti-aliasing` question. Perhaps there is some software that came with your computer that will help you interface with your video card to change settings?

Are you trying to run a stock version of PotC, or do you have the Build 12 mods installed?

It's the stock game, no build. I'll take a look for the software.
And the disks are fine like you said, the game ran perfectly on my mates pc which is even more frustrating! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":c" border="0" alt="mad.gif" />

okay tried the resolution changes and sadly there was no difference. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":c" border="0" alt="mad.gif" />
Would there be any point in downloading build 12 and seeing if that worked? clutching at straws here...

Ok, your processor is more than adaquate, so it should work. However it is possible that it's your display adapter that can't handle the graphics. When I had a laptop I could not run SVGA graphics because the screen (display adapter) was only VGA.

It looks like your graphics card/`display-adapter`/monitor are uniVGA. You'd probably need a SVGA supported video card/`display-adapter`/monitor. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bookish.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mm" border="0" alt="bookish.gif" />
