Hi.

Apofis

Landlubber
Hi. As you can probably guess I'm new to the forums, but I've been playing your Build 13 mod for a while now.

First of all I would just like to thank the people who worked on this build, in my opinion it is amazing, and you guys deserve full credit for all the hard work you have obviously put into it. To me you guys are on par with the Artix Entertainment team.

As you can also probably guess I have some questions I couldn't seem to find any answers too from a 5 page browse on the forums. I would appreciate it if someone could find some time out of thier busy days to help me out.
(Btw I am using Build 13 Full)

1. I've got a small amount of bugs listed in my game file, would it still be helpful if I submitted it? And if so who would I send it too?

2. I've heard that you can get bombs in this game, but I've not been able to find any conclusive or coherent "How To's". Could any one tell me how to get them in as simple a way as possible?

3. Is there a template anywhere for making a "custom" ship? As in taking a pre-made one already based on a ship and giving it a few "personal" touchs? (Of course not to be made for plageristic re-distribution, >.< )

Thank you in advance to anyone who can help me out. And thanks again for giving me the gift of a great new game. =]

Hello Apofis! Welcome to the forum! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

1) Bug reports are aways welcome. If you use Build 13 Full, please post your bug report in <a href="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=11092" target="_blank">this</a> thread. In a couple of days we will start on stage 2 of the "Sparrow Search" bughunting project, in which we will search for the bugs in Build 13 Final. A new thread will be posted on that one, so if you use Build 13 Final, please save your bug report and post it when we started on Stage 2 of the project. You can also just post the bugs in this thread to make sure the report won't get lost somehow. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

2) Bombs are turned off by default for the realistic cannons mod. You can still get them ingame by going to one of the landbased forts in Greenford, Oxbay and some of the new islands. There you might find somebody who can sneak you some bombs from the fort's storage. But you WILL find a lot of enemies to fight. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

3) What do you want to change on the ship? The statistics or the texture/model? The statistics are in PROGRAM\SHIPS\ships_init.c; the ship type name is in RESOURCE\INI\TEXTS\ENGLISH\common.ini. Both files can be opened with Notepad. The model files are in RESOURCE\MODELS\Ships and can be viewed with the <a href="http://www.s31clan.com/privateftps/pietersmods/potc_downloads/tools/gmviewer.zip" target="_blank">GM Viewer</a> and modified using <a href="http://www.s31clan.com/privateftps/pietersmods/potc_downloads/tools/tool.rar" target="_blank">Inez Dias' Tool</a>. The textures are in RESOURCE\Textures\Ships and can be converted to an editable format using the <a href="http://www.s31clan.com/privateftps/pietersmods/potc_downloads/tools/txconverter.zip" target="_blank">TX Converter</a>.

Good day (or night xD ) Sir Boelen, thank you for your kind welcome.

I will submit my bug list to the Sparrow Search soon, but first I'm going to sneak into GreenFord and see if I can't enter into some "agressive negotiations" with the civilians, or wose yet, the soldiers... =S

And to answer your question I essentially want to simply make an exact copy of a ship and edit it's attributes. (For example: Making a copy of a Manowar and making it have more/less cannons, more cargo capacity etc, etc... But not model editing or anything, too advanced for a mere land lubber such as myself. >.< )

Thank you again for your kind welcome and helpful (and might I add prompt) reply.

Now! To bug hunting! =D

In that case all you need to do is to make a copy of the ship's ships_init.c entry. Change refShip.id to something else and change any other values you want to. Please note: You can increase the number of cannons here, but they won't actually fire (and thus won't do any damage) unless they are also added to the model, which is a lot of work. All other things can be changed just fine. You can set the ship to CanBuy = true and CanEncounter = false, so you can buy it at the shipyards, but will not encounter it. Or you could set it as your starting ship in PROGRAM\InternalSettings.h.

You'r fan of Stargate? Eh? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

Arr, I be thankin' ye good sir, now I can really have some fun, but if only I could get the bloke to send the bombs to my ship instead of raising the alarm I'd be in paradise. xD

And aye, I am a fan of Star Gate. Especially my name-sake, guy just won't stay dead! xD

LOL. You need to be LUCKY for that to work! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />
But it CAN be done. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> Apofis

I've always found getting bonbs from the fort much more fun, but if it get really bothersome, you can always edit the InitGoods.c file.

Around line 102 you see <!--c1--><div class='codetop'>CODE</div><div class='codemain'><!--ec1-->        Goods[GOOD_BOMBS].NoTrade = true;<!--c2--></div><!--ec2-->

Just change that to False.

Thanks Petros! Reinit (F11) will probably be required. If that doesn't work, start a new game.

Lol, thanks guys, I've managed to get the 2 "send bombs down to my ship" dialogues to come up but after that nothing happens. So all well =P

I'll just go without, or take Petros's advice.

I'd like to say thanks again for the advice. And you guys are so nice. xD

That's odd, because you are supposed to get some if he agreed.
The amount is random but I think the minimum was 200.

Are you sure you had cargo space available when you tried this?

i'd save the bombs as a special treat for those foes that REALLY piss you off. there's not many bombs you'll get, and they run out pretty quick with big ships, but you'll send those buggers all over the place with their firebuckets. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /> apart from that, it's good fireworks. i just love it when a ship's cannons start exploding everywhere and when the powder room explodes too after a while. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/boom.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":boom" border="0" alt="boom.gif" /> anyway, even if you don't get the bombs, rampaging through a fort is well worth it for the equipment you loot. but come well-prepared! some particular forts have extremely strong soldiers, far stronger than others, although i've never been able to determine why.

Each time I attempted to *ahem* "persuade" a civilian to give me bombs, I tried choosing one of the two options that had "bombs" in the answer, (not the first one, saying I was going to take over the Fort) but after I chose either one the dialogue simply ended and the guy ran off, without raising the alarm. I had about 1000 cwts of free cargo space as I always loaded up the same file after each attempt.

Forts with extremely strong soldiers, eh? Are these particular forts or are they randomly generated? I feel like a challenge! xD

i don't know. i haven't seen any consistency in the tough soldiers. maybe it's level based. anyway, they always have medium/large braces of pistols (hardly ever below average. and those things HURT) and swords like solingen rapiers, cardinals guard's, bosun's choice's, etc. all swords who have either a really high block or huge damage. bring along at least battle armor and a sword with at least 50% block!

You didn't get the bombs? Please check your inventory and see if you got any grenades instead. If so, choose the other option next time.

I managed to convince the man in the fort to give me some bombs, which was very good. Thank you all for your help in helping me to unlock these miniature terrors. >=]

However one thing I did notice was A) That it was hard to get them. And B) That you don't get very much, so I decided to unlock them for the stores. So I could refresh my supply when need be.

However something I noticed whenever I traded ships is that I cannot transfer the bombs (as they simply don't show up in the goods menu) I assume this is because Stores and Boarding run on different scripts.

I wonder if it's possible to make them transferable? As it is rather bad for buisness to be continually replacing them. xD

Hmmm, you are right, I'll have to look into this. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bookish.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mm" border="0" alt="bookish.gif" /> <!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->I wonder if it's possible to make them transferable? I'll admit, that is an inconvenience, but then consider this.

When not using "realistic cannon" mod, the bombs cost 250.

I believe by using the "Cheat" I posted, you get to buy them for only 10. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" />

Ok, in "transfer_goods.c" file, there are three instances of code lines<!--c1--><div class='codetop'>CODE</div><div class='codemain'><!--ec1-->if (USE_REAL_CANNONS && i == GOOD_BOMBS) continue;<!--c2--></div><!--ec2-->

I just put // in front of each line to out comment it, and can now see the bombs when exchanging cargo between ships.

Warning, I'm not sure if this will adversely affect anything else in the game.

Doing the same in the "shiphold.c" file allows to check for bombs in your ships hold as well.

Pieter, I wonder if this is going to be, or has been a problem for people who use realistic cannon setting but who manage to get bombs form the fort, or perhaps from "taking all" cargo from captured ships that "might" have "invisible" bomb cargo. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

Not knowing or remembering if, one has bombs, or how many bombs one has in cargo is a problem.

This could mess up a players estimate of how much cargo room a player needs to free up for certain quests.
