How do i get money? seriously....

Starting a game, I like to do onshore stuff to earn money. Go wander the jungle and kill/loot some bandits, save a few maidens and get rewards. Do this until you have a money to buy a decent ship.

You can also talk to people in town and get a really easy, transport person X to Y for 20K misson.

After that, capturing and selling ships is the easy way to make money. You will need to recruit an officer in a tavern so he can be captain of the ship you capture. This will cost you about 10K up front, but their monthly salary will be much less.

When boarding make sure you have weapons in your hold equal to or greater than your crew. I didn't know this when I started, and as a result, my crew didn't fight very well.

actually i do trade runs first.its good for money and trading and navigation skills plus it is less risky.then when i have enough cash to buy a better ship and "arm my crews to the teeth"i do boardings mostly pirate ships <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/happy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="^_^" border="0" alt="happy.gif" /> then that's where the decent income starts. though at times i think capturing ships decreases the loyalty of your officers..depends on their reputations

Well eventually you will have enough money that you won't have to lift a finger, you'll just rake in the interests from your savings in banks.

talking about banks, if a town are pillaged or captured, do we loose our money from that bank?

I have heard that you can lose investment money of the town that bank is in is raided. But all I've heard is rumor from the usual place I gather it, the Russian forums.

Supposedly capitals (ie towns where the governor-general resides) should be more resilient to sieges and so a safer places to store your ships and money.
It's too bad we can't have an actual pirate cave with buried treasure and stuff. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

Confirmed... yesterday when playing I received the message of money lost at Bridgetown... I wondered why... load a previous save and head fast to Barbados... Once I was arriving, the same message appears, I were veeeery close to the island and noticed that a new convoy appear getting out of Bridgetown, it was a military convoy from Holland that raided Bridgetown... so, in revenge for my 750K I confronted the convoy. 2 Battleships, 2 Frigate and a Corvette that, after the raid, were on low crew (40% or so), so I take the 2 battleships and one of the Frigates (only room for 3 ships, my convoy is formed by 2 ships, WarDog and Arabella) and the Corvette and Frigate remaining were pillaged... found 500K in the cabin´s chest of the convoy leader, all the plunder on the ships (with some gold on them)..... ahrrrrr, revenge is better when you strip the ships for selling them for a good profit... my 750K loss was widely paid by blood and 1 million with all the trades.

Yeah, that's very cool! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />
Can you actually arrive in the middle of the battle? That'd be even cooler, and you'd have the fort to help you out.

Very cool. So now we do know that there is even more to this game than first meets the eye.

I'm really liking all the interesting details that we keep running across.

I didn´t arrive on time...<strike> I´ll try to reload and sail faster (crossing my fingers for favorable wind) and getting on port before the reid finish... I´ll update info if city-raiding can be countered</strike>.
EDIT - Arghhh.. it was a QuickSave, and the next saving was at the end of CoAS questline before facing the storm.... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

my money is at port royal, coz it seams to me the stronger setllement around, about being able to defend the town where we have our money, i can say we can, i never needed to protect my interests but when i hear rumors about any of my prefered places being raided, i usualy go there to help defending the place(if we get there in time, the attack starts when we arrive), also i think we can join raid partys that are friendly to us(never tried it tho)

Mmm, sounds fun. I'll have to try that sometime... just as soon as I leave <strike>Shipwreck Cove</strike> COAS. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

The smuggler mod made the game easier for me <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />.

Yep that makes two of us. I spent thee game day's at port taking what ever i could find, and looting all bodies including many battles with skellingtons, i then sold the 12 IBS and replaced them with 16 IBS on the Colonial Schooner and set sail from 20k up to 35k in my pocket still, not bad for 3 game day's, through the night i would kill skellingtons and durring the day but i spent most of the day looting chests and visiting homes etc, i haven't done any actual work for anyone but myself, as soon as i got involved in a sea battle i was promoted 2 more levels. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

I almost died twice in the cave, those skellingtons get harder either that or my fencing skills got worse. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/duel_pa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ixi" border="0" alt="duel_pa.gif" /> so i stocked up on bullets and shot them as often as i could, also i found my energy would decrease while i was in the cave so i would have a drink to replenish my health outside the cave and once fully replenished i would go back into the cave, i would keep doing that till either i ran out of health drinks or i couldn't carry any more iteam's, more often than not it was because i had no energy drinks left.
