how do you make up with a nation?

I have been beating up on the english and the dutch, and I was hoping to stay in good terms with the spanish and french. I happened to take one little french smuggler, and now they won't let me in their ports.

will flying a french flag help?

Ok, now that I know I am not insane.. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> I would suggest the following.

1. Open up your log and see who the French are at war with then start attacking their shipping and towns. Better yet, take over a town of their enemy and install a French Governor.

2. Attack any pirates and pirate raiders you see.

3. Attack any indian canoes you see.

4. Sail to the nearest french settlement and speak to the mayor, escort him to his new posting as GOV or escort the mission ship.

5. Sail to the nearest Jesuit Mission and maybe they will offer to talk to the Governor for you or you can escort immigrants to a french town.


Basically, when you look at your Capt's Log, any action that caused a little french flag to appear, they liked. Do it and do it often. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dev.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":d:" border="0" alt="dev.gif" />

I dunno, Skull. I tend to think the disguises are only good when you enter the merchants shop. i.e. click on "trade with the merchant".

To qoute the online `Pirate-O`-Pedia.
"Put on a false beard, a fake nose, a couple of warts and a different colored wig and you will be able to trade with even the most suspicious <span style='color:red'><i><b>merchant</b></i></span>

I have entered towns without the disguises and chatted with Gov's, no problem, but the merchant has told me he does not deal with pirates.

Hmm maybe I should try this out various ways and see what happens.

The jesuits sometimes have people who will negotiate an amnesty for you if you escort them , the price on your head dissapears , but the governor will try to sell you a letter of marque , if you go and sink a few pirates the price of the letter drops and eventually dissapears .
