Buy a Letter of Marque from one of the friendly (neutral) countries--England's the safest bet, of course, but you can buy one from any nation's governor as long as your relations with that nation are decent. Once you have that, every enemy ship you sink (pirates and ships of any nation at war with your LoM nation) will count toward promotions. Speak to the governor who sold you the LoM in order to get promoted, and thus receive acres of land in the home country.

I've been working for England, and have reached `Vice-Admiral` status. Can't remember how many acres of land I've got now, but they generate about 1000 gold per day.

OK, I have Letter of Marque from Spain, Holland (thats where I live in the real world) and England, now I have stoped with The English one becaus of the missions you will gett in war with them. But I have in total of 20.000 acres of land in Conceiano + Dowesen + Redmon, so I gett like 10.000 - 20.000 per day from my land.
It is just a metter of patiens and good ships, the higher level is the ship you have sunk the faster you will gett promoted.

PS: if you go to Dowesen and yous ee that you are being promoted to `Shout-bij`-Nach or something like that save the game and go do semeting els for `3-4` month and then com back and continu with destroing ships for holland. Otherwise it will crach the whole game.
