How to sell a ship ?

desmond5

Landlubber
Whenever I sell a ship, it replaces the ship I sold with the lowest-level ship (tartan or something like that), so I am unable to free the ship's slot by selling the ship itself, I have to sink my own ship (with crew and officers) to free a slot for another ship. Is there a way around that ?

Also, why are Churches locked ?

The ship which is sold is replaced, BUT YOU DON'T BUY THE REPLACEMENT UNTILL YOU CLICK ON "BUY" BUTTON.
So just don't care about the replacement. If you need, just click to choose another ship and then click on "buy" button, or simply leave the shop - no replacement will be bought. When you sell the ship you will get a memo how many crewsmembers you have in abundance (calculated with the replacement). If you have enough space in the other ship (or the new ship you really buy) the excess crew is autodistributed. But be carefull - there are bugs even in the latest version. Better don't have any trade or escort quests left active. Sometimes your crew may be distributed even to the escorted ship...

I didn't buy a new ship - If I sell a ship in shipyard, it's replaced with a Tartane automatically for free (which cannot be selled). And that Tartane is what annoys me, I can't get rid of it without destroying it myself (as that Tartane cannot be selled). I would be okey with it, but doing this means killing the captain (my hired officer).

Transfer yourself to the Tartane and then buy another ship... the tartane is exchanged for that other ship.

Hope this helps... took me some time to figure out
