Bug Humphrey Douglas disappears after giving him any sword

This bug is already mentioned in this thread: Bug - Humphrey Douglas bug

So I'm not going to elaborate it. According to the thread it's a longtime bug and apparently still present in GOF 2.1.5 version. I was lucky to check him after giving him the sword for safekeeping before overwriting game so it saved me from screwing up. Can it be fixed?
