I CAN'T TAKE a SHIP of the LINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What do you mean, you can´t take it? Are you unable to find one or is it so strong you can´t beat it?
If the first, as far as I know, there aren´t too many of them around and those which are should be close to English colonies. If the second, try to get a ship to match it, like the Flag Galleon Montalban uses. It´s fully upgraded as well, with that, you should be able to get the Ship of the Line. Disable their sails with chain shot, then kill off their crew with grapes, it´s a proven tactic. And always remember: they´re weak at the stern, as are we all <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

But i can't search a Ship of the Line!
 
They appear randomly, so I´m afraid you´ll have to bless your soul in patience. For my part, I´ve never met one, either. A couple of threads further down there´s another one about Ships of the Line, maybe you can get a savegame where one has captured one. I´m afraid that´s as much as I can do.

Not over and above the large frigate - you don't need that sort of firepower!

Nah! I'd jest be want'n one fer de sake O" have'n one,I prefer a Royal Sloop,I'd easily be able te make mince meat out O' larger ships wid her, and it's not likely ye'd ever find a pirate wid a Ship O' de LIne <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />
 
SotL appear most often as "New Warship". The Spanish only have Galleons, so look for a Sotl near the other nations' ports.

They look like Frigates!
Remember, in an artillery duel with a SotL, you will loose.
Find some other way to take it.

The last few SOTL's I managed to find, were sold at the next port or plundered and sunk on the spot.

If you like using Frigates, you will just Love the SotL.
I prefere something much smaller.

If you want to tinker with using a SotL, try this <a href="http://www.geocities.com/rupertlittlebear/slot13.zip" target="_blank">save.</a> Oh yes, head directly for that Dutch port. There is a Pirate Hunter coming after you and you need to court that Attractive Daughter for some gifts.
 
I finally ran across a Ship of the Line, purely by chance. I was cruising off St. Kitts with an uprated Brigantine (copperered hull, cotton sails, chain and grape shot, and fine powder), when I fell upon a large vessel being escorted westward by a sloop of war. I siezed the weather gauge and fired a raking broadside of chain into the stern of the lineship, the sloop having run too hard before the wind and unable to turn back and lend aid. I took in sail and tacked against her turns, getting off two broadsides of grape before overtaking her. Her master put up a spirited fight, but he was soon over the side in search of a more suitable command.

She's a fine ship; 48 bronze guns and a hearty crew. I think I'll keep this one a while. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

well i started a new game yesterday in 1660 and decided to be mean to the dutch, i plunder one ship and then suddenly after that a new warship comes out of St Martin. a bloody Ship of the Line. arrr
i decide to attack with my regular sloop lol and to my suprise he dosent try to artillery duel me. but i guess it was since i only had about 50 crew. so i boarded and fought against 200 men but my skillz in dueling finished the captain off quite fast.
so now at the age of 19(was 18 when i took the SOTL) i sail around proudly with a 48 gun SOTL named the HMS Victory arrrr <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

A Ship of the `Line-ok` nagyon ritkák, a franciáknak, az angoloknak, és nagy néha a hollandoknak van. Az esélye annak hogy találsz egyet nagyon alacsony. Ugyanúgy néz ki mint egy Large Frigate, de kicsit nagyobb. Minden "New Warship", illetve "Pirate Hunter" feliratú hajót nézz meg, hátha véletlenül ráakadsz a keresett hajóra. Ha már neked is elég nagy hajód van, zárj el egy angol vagy francia kikötőt úgy hogy folyamatosan lövöd a `Space-szel`, és minden onnan ki, illetve oda be igyekvő angol vagy francia hajót elfoglalsz. Egy idő után már egy "Escort" hajóval jönnek ki, majd egy "Pirate Hunter" hajót küldenek ki utánad. Ez remélhetőleg egy Ship of the Line lesz. <b>Nagyon nehéz, de elvileg valamikor majd csak ráakadsz egyre.
