how's about any of you trying to beat my record of getting a manowar in 38 days? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" /> tip to start you off:

get the pirate corvette at FDF as soon as you can. then, start roaming the oceans until you find a fleet!

note: it is doable. i simply got incredibly lucky when i saw a french manowar attacking douwesen when i had just left port after purchasing a LoM. i did have the corvette by then.

Again, the French. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

heck, it's their fault they happened to be attacking the fort when i was around! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

French!?! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" /> ..as allways "Their ships are toys!" <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

I can catch a manowar with my cursed corvette pretty well theoretically. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

well, it's really doable. the hard part is the time in which you should do it, not to actually get it once you find it.

That is very impressive, Morgan. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

wel, it was more of a combination of circumstances. i had the amazing luck of getting a good navigator and connoneer really early on in the game, and i had of course the luck of the beast being there at the same time as i was. apart from that, i didn't recieve any major damage when i was sailing straight for the broadside of the thing. prof. ship defence really helps a lot!

In an early Build version I got a Man-o-War right at the begining of the game, just after the tutorial - so count it like '0' day... I was personaly sailing a war tartana. The Man-o-War was having a hard time with FdF Fort (or was it another? don't remember) and decided to surrender. But well I guess that's a kind of cheating, the surrender code wasn't completly good at that moment.

yeah, i guess so. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> let's count that as a record for the shortest time with making miss-use of bugs. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

That's true. Not every day a Man-o-War surrenders to a war tartana. If I tried that, even with the bug, I'd be blasted to Davy Jones locker. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

it can be fun trying to do the reverse. that boarding isn't as easy as you'd think! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

this title sure yielded some topic views!

Getting manowar with a tartane? eh? ..sounds like another one man army job for Riddick. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

heck, i got a pinnace with a tartane. it's not that hard. manowars can't be that much worse if you don't have to fight at all.

A little off topic but, with the mention of navigator and gunner I'm just wondering, what do any of your officers actually do for you? I've never noticed any help beyond the gunner re-equips me with ammo and powder sometimes.

I think your three active officers are supposed to contribute their skills to the sailing of the ship. Other than that: They serve no real purpose. I really want to see that changed: I want the player to NEED his officers.

well, those skills don't always work, as i found out. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> but they do most of the time.

So if you have good leadership persay and then an active navigator, gunner, and I don't know a tough I guess, you'll still do good firing with accuracy and a good speed and turning radious? Kinda packing all of ya into one? Its kinda cool, but then if your high level and have it all anyway you really don't need them... It would be cool to have something else to it than that.

well, they can fight. apart from the skills that i actually want them to have, i always give them maxed combat skill and abilities. my officers are usually better than the actual crew, but if they die, you're in more trouble than when a regular crewmember dies.

They give you backup in fights and can command prize ships, but they don't really contribute much to the game and aren't all that useful. There is the IDEA of making a certain set of officers required for sailing a ship so that you mist have a bunch of officers to be able to sail a Manowar effectively and if you try it without, your ship will not run at maximum efficiency. Would be possible, but complicated to acchieve. Also I would like to give officers some personalities.

That would be a good idea, it would make them relevant again once you don't need the bonus they give you. And there always should be some kind of criteria that you have to maintain. That keeps the game from getting to easy. Imagine being on a Manowar and losing some officers and being stuck, maybe having to fight another ship so you can take it because you can't operate the behemoth anymore.
