I had no idea, hehe

Fitzy

Sailor Apprentice
I had no idea that this was the same Pirates (all be it updated) as one of my favourite amiga games, this is due to pure ignorance on my part and since alot of my gaming time goes into mmorpg's I had never really thought about buying it, I've seen it in the stores alot and believe it can be bought cheap now.

I would like to ask if it's worthwhile buying this game or is it my feelings of nostalgia getting the better of me? I'm sure I don't need to tell anyone who has played it on the amiga, or other old machine, how many hours/days/weeks worth of fun the original game was, I'm sure somewhere in an old dusty box the amiga disks are still there so I'm going to go check and if they are then I'll pop it on WinUAE for old times sake.

If I do buy it for the pc am I going to be disapointed? Or is it a fun game to play?

Its DEFINATELY worth buying! At all times, in all situations (and the price sure keeps dropping).
If you are up to something big in your real life, however, dont. You will get addicted. You will miss dinner, supper, breakfast and your family will most likely be left out in the cold. Also, this game is not girlfriend-friendly and she will most likely walk away after a couple of weeks <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

That being said, the graphics are ordinary and the first-person sailing experience is missing, compared to PotC. But you will no longer have to run across every town to talk to a guvernor or refit your ship at the shipyard. Towns are almost not existant, except from if you are in bad standing with a city and you need to talk to the guvernor. Then, you have to sneak past the guard through the town, which can be very difficult.

Also, you will be hooked on dancing - in order to get a decent guvernors daughter, you really have to rely on a perfect dance with her first <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Good hunting.

The amiga version was certainly adictive to the point where the sun would start to shine through the curtains and I would be thinking to myself "My god is it that time already, ah well I suppose I could just finish this little bit I'm doing", (fast forwards several hours) "My god is it night time already" I'm sure you know the feeling <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" /> hehe

As far as I can remember I saw it for sale at either £5 or £10, which when you consider that any new game released in the uk usually costs between £30 to £40, then £5-£10 is a steal <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" /> .

I'll probably se if I can pick it up tomorrow and give it a try, If you don't hear from me in several weeks you know I'm hooked hehe

Edit: Graphics aren't major issue for me when it comes to good games, I remember the ZX spectrum <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> , I much prefer quality game content to quality graphics, It's a shame that alot of modern games think that good graphics make a good game.
