IDEA - Importing the ships from Sea Dogs?

I was just thinking... I still play the original Sea Dogs, since I too often find the "Hollywood" aspect of POTC irritating (this is, let's face it, a game based more on a "movie" than on real pirate "history"). To me, the ship models in Sea Dogs are not too far behind those of POTC in detail and quality, and some might even argue that they are quite superior in authenticity (i.e., most are made to resemble "real" ships of the period vs. the models of POTC which are, too often, pure hollywood).

The frigates of Sea Dogs, for instance, are (for better or worse) true to such vessels that actually sailed the Caribbean during the 17th century. The frigates of POTC, on the other hand, (with the exception the brown and black model which is based on a Russian vessel - which still never sailed the Caribbean) are "decorated" far too flamboyantly to represent true combat ships of that time.

This said, I was wondering whether anyone had tried importing the models of Sea Dogs into POTC? Since the Sea Dogs vessels are typical of a somewhat earlier era of sail, by adding them one could greatly increase the historic "feel" of POTC (wooden ships, after all, required such time and man power to build that they were often kept sailing for centuries - large combat vessels in particular). The `Man-of`-war from Sea Dogs, for example, greatly resembles the very earliest of such vessels (like the "Royal George", or the original "Victory"), where as the `Man-of`-war from POTC is more typical of later ships of its class (such as the later "Victory" that served at Trafalgar).

By using the models of both POTC "and" Sea Dogs in a future build, I thus feel that one could greatly improve the game's historic "feel", and eliminate some of the `Hollywood-ization` of what, had Disney not intervened, would undoubtedly have been a much superior "pirating simulation" as Sea Dogs 2.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Eric

Well, I only had a short look at Seadogs, but I didn't get the impression you could just load the models into a 3D program and convert them to a different format.
Maybe one of the Seadogs modders can answer this: are the models exportable at all?

Unfortunately, there are few MODELERS around here these days, Inez. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> Wish there were more... Funny, we had a LOT of them around, when I was first learning the code - and few texturers. Now we've got coders and painters but hardly any modelers. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> Funny how that goes. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/type_1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":nk" border="0" alt="type_1.gif" />

Funny, that; usually it's texturers who are in demand.

Regarding SD models. I don't know if there's a way to export SD geometry. Since it uses the same format as Age of Sail II (and AoS2 PB I assume) you could try asking at forums for that game (or googling),

The SD capital is still probably <a href="http://www.thelib.com" target="_blank">http://www.thelib.com</a> and you check the forums there or ask on them.
