Idols in CMV 3.2?

I know in Vanilla CoAS, idols increased various stats, or prevented rats on your ship (but not companions).

In CMV 3.2, the skills are done with books... I'm not doing the Technolichan quest (sp?)... i'm playing Peter blood, so I picked up one idol at the end of his questline. I've picked up another 6 or so from various shop keepers and vendors while i wander around the Carribean... Are these things solidly aesthetic? Or do they actually still serve a function in CMV 3.2?

If that Idol from Vanilla is used for a Quest...

Then it's still a quest item...
It doesn't give stats anymore...
Same as the other Idol / Totems / Rings / Neclace / Etc ...

Stats increased by book only.

They put it into REALity...
Even the wind at sea are 0.2.... knots...

Am I even moving here... oh wait... oh no... I'm not...

If those item serve as Quest item in Vanilla. They are still quest item. It's just the Increased Stats are removed... and replaced by books.
