I found a good use for the cursed coins, I collect ten of them, and to keep them from affecting me all of the time, I store them in my ship chest until I set up a smuggling run, then I take them with me so that the Costa Guarda (the usually undermanned and disorganized Costa Guarda) is more likely to make an appearance, and I have to fight my way out on land and sea! Prior to this I just used to avoid adding to my luck, but this works better.

HAHA! dident know that! got 4 of em in my ehhhmmmm... sockdraw,,, im my ship. so if i get like 40 of em there will be pirates for sure when i get in my ship from the port?

Speaking of the cursed coins, I suspect the game was supposed to be designed to harm you in some way if you held onto them too long... in one of the game files, there is the text "You became TOO old to resist the curse of the Aztec gold!" that is supposed to pop up at some point.
 
astec gold as a item only exists in build 11 right? So if it does we could just ask the modders. You can tunr into one of em skellies?
