Impossibility of Escaping Oxbay

Capitan

Landlubber
It is impossible to Escape Oxbay with Tobias in the Post Build 12 mod. Every damm time I go to do it, the palisade or the bastion blows the bejesus out of me with it's cannon. I die instantly. There's no escape. Then when I come back in a tavern and walk all the way back to the port, I can't get into the ship. It's locked! What's wrong here!

well, with the cannons, i suggest you get rid of them prior to escaping, as soon as the nation sees you as hostile, the town guards will attack you, and because the town itself has become hostile, any armed buildings made there will be hostile aswell, which is why you should get rid of the guns prior to the escape.
as for not being able to leave the Oxbay port after that, i think thats been a problem for a while, but save just before entering the port AFTER getting rid of the cannons and you should be fine.
Hope That Helps.

What version of the mod are you using? Please make sure you get the latest update from my website (5 March 2006). I think it should be fixed in there, but I'm not entirely sure, so I need someone testing. You might need to start a new game for that update to work properly, but I'm not sure about that either.

Not? Blast. It WILL be fixed in the next proper update though. I just remove all the new buildings in Oxbay port after the first time you left. Then there is no way in which this problem will still occur.

I didnt have a problem getting out & I've got the March 5 Update. The ol' Corvette was a little worse for wear by the time I finally got to the point where I could use the Sea Map,but I managed to get out.

As for the new Oxbay,
Well, I like the new buildings & additions in Oxbay.

I got out using the fast travel icon. It still had the conversation with the guard, and still had to wait on the others before I could use the boat (translation - fight off 27 guards) - but it got me out of the firing arc of that added weapon. Granted, it was using one bug to avoid another, but heck...

I got out by going back into town (after talking with the outside guard). Take a right as soon as you reenter town and go to the first house (sewers) once you are in I beleive you turn around and go back out again. You will then find yourself in the sea. Swim to the dock and jump on your ship!

Ahoy there, aye i'm having trouble leaving oxbay with post build 12 mod as well, ended up reverting to 12.1 as some of the bugs really got to me. But my trouble was leaving it for the first time, when it shows the cutscene of you fleeing and then dumps you on the map, it instead just dumped me right in the port, leaving me to instantly get destroyed by the fort. The only way I was able to get out of this was to raise the french flag and then raise the english flag before I came into redmond (didn't do this the first time, and got blown out of the water by an english line ship). Also a couple other bugs I noticed, if you take the tutorial and don't complete it before nightfall, then when the doors lock, the game breaks... as the tavern door locked for some reason as well for me, so I couldn't rest until morning, and the city gates locked.

Ahoy thar Duncan, I welcome ye Matey. If'n I understand yew right, yew be sayin that yew skipped the tutorial and put to sea....But got dump back on to Oxbay Port, and got blown up right away? Thius would indeed cause you problems....doesnt happen often...if you are English....do the tutorial, and follow Malcolm until you know what to do on your own....this has to be done in a certain order

If yew followed the Oxbay Tutorial, and read what Malcolm your faithful, ever loyal, soon to part, damn his heart, Boatswain tells you, you will see the part where he hints to raise the French Flag, before you leave the Port, this stops you from being fire on by the newly captured but you didnt know, Fortifications around the Now French Port after the Cut scene about the frenh fleet. Then of course once you put to sea and sail out enough you can raise another flag and start your career

As for not completing tutorial...that is weird, but you cannot go into any of the buildings first, Malcolm has to unlock them in order and you follow ( unless you tell Malcolm to go play somewhere earlier on and try to do it by yourself ).....but to be fair to you, there is a newly added feature about Taverns...when you muster new hands or crew, the game now immediately reverts to the night, you will see the message up in the top left of the screen...something to the effect of "mustering new hands takes the rest of the day" or something like this.....I do not like this new feature at all, and because it is new, it may indeed prevent you from finishing the tutorial. But how you got into the Tavern first without it being unlocked....well??? When the night comes of course, it prevents you from going into any more buildings that day, cause it is now nightime and they are all locked up, cept the tavern...follow? I would say somehow you did something that took so long that night came, and you still had not finished the tutorial the way Malcolm was supposed to show you! Only he can open the Tavern for you....same as the store, shipyard and the gates....he has to go first...

Anyway this is a little trick I like...try it, I will try an be brief....follow Malcolm...do the tutorial...after he quits your crew...buy equipment and stuff for your crew.....a couple fine Sabers or cutlasses, health potions....get ready to put to sea, grab three or 4 officers if'n you can and for lord sakes raise the french flag using F2 and relations. Now save as soon as you get to the end of the docks..then go to sea. You will see the film, where the french fleet appears....at the end, you realize you are this one ship...sloop I think they called it that sails away to warn the Redmond Governor...ok! When the movie ends, ( hit esc to skip it once you have seen it enough to understand what happens ) you will be in harbor...raise sails and go toward sea, use your "R" button to speed up to 3x...the french guarding the port are to the right of you.....this is important. You go left down the coast...A little ways down the coast is Greenford....there are two colonies on this Island...Greenford is still English...you will see by using your "open command icon menu" and your sailto button the ships that are in and around the sea area and sometimes they are english and pirates or otherwise against the french. as you sail away far enough changed flags back to english or your own colors...the three french will raise sails and come after you....sail right around the Island...because as the french follow you, you will sometimes see ships surrender to the following french ships......if this be the case, when you come around the island again, you can board the "surrendered", "struck", ships and capture them as long as your flag wasnt the same as them, with your own colors this should not be a be problem. (example = if you are english, and english ships strike, you cannot board them without repercussions from the english...but if you have your personnal colors you can...worry about rep later ) This is a good way to get a couple of small ships quickly and you then go to sea, and sail to redmond.....

Hope this helps.....

Alright I just made a second instance of POTC and installed the post build and the april 30th update, i'll give it a try and see how it goes.

Well so far, all I have to say is wow to the april 30th update, good job all, really amazing job, especially on character selection screen... haven't gotten too far yet though as I'm busy gawking at the new stuff <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> Though on the blaze and beatrice models, the sidestep is reiduculously far, as in a good 10 feet. Guessing it has to do with the animation + multipliers for the other models that don't have animations.

The problem with being blown to bits when leaving Oxbay isn't a bug. You are intended to raise French colours. You can raise any flag you like and you can use that to fool your enemies.

The bug with not being able to complete the tutorial should have been fixed. The problem was that, if you hired crew, it would be night by the time you managed, so you wouldn't be able to continue. I added a check on this mod, so that it will always happen, except during the tutorial.

You can change blaze and beatrice's sidestep distance with #define STRAIF_DIST in PROGRAM\BuildSettings.h. If you find a better value, please tell me and I'll change it in the modpack itself as well.

I have been trying this but either nothing goes up in smoke or just something useless like one of the windmills.
anyone got any idea what has gone wrong

i think that is part of the fix. have you tried saving then continuing the game until that part?
maybe its fixed...
if not, then i wil have to leave the modders to figure that out.

What version of the modpack are you using? I changed and fixed that some time. What you report was a known problem that got caused when Screwface added random characters to the ports. I changed this so that when you leave Oxbay the first time, the buildings collapse and, next time you get to Oxbay, they'd be gone. That makes sure the buildings can't fire on you anymore.

I was using the latest modpack from your site. however i was trying to blow them up manualy while i was in port as i just thought they looked ugly. but not much we can do about that as far as i could see. if they blow up when you leave port than thats fine

You can prevent those buildings from being generated by removing the appropriate BuildAt() commands from PROGRAM\Reinit.c. This does require a new game though.
