Installing the Game without Blowing Up Your Computer

Please let us people who have spent their time far away from Age of Pirates know what Starforce REALLY is all about.
What is it? How does it work? How does it get on your computer and why wouldn't you want to?
Is it as evil as is being suggested? And if so, how would one go about obtaining the game legally without being subjected to that evil?
Can you install and play the game without Starforce? Somehow?
We're not promoting piracy here of course, but there's nothing wrong with considering computer health. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/razz.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":razz" border="0" alt="razz.gif" />

so i have to download illegaly if i want to get rid of starforce? i bought a copy the legal way..

now i remember why i dont buy or support games with this shitty protection programs. it only hurts does who actually bought the game..

okay i am getting nervous here. i dont want to press done in my install thingy. i dont want this starforce shit... ehh what did it do again?

I don't know; that's why I'm asking. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

well i am playing the game and my computer is still in a not blown up state <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":blah:" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

When Starforce installs, it installs as a hidden device driver, without the end-user's knowledge or consent. Starforce can cause a lot of problems ranging from annoying software crashes and reboots to actually causing damage to CD drives. Those extreme cases are rare though and Starforce's developer disputes that hardware damage could actually occur. You can read a lot more about it <a href="http://www.glop.org/starforce/" target="_blank"> HERE.</a>

The only way that I know to successfully play a game that has Starforce copy protection is to install the game as normal, this WILL install the Starforce drives onto your system. after installation, DO NOT run the game, download and run the Starforce removal tool available from the website above and read and follow the instructions provided. After the Starforce drivers have been removed however, you will be unable to run the game because the Starforce drivers are no longer present. The only solution to this is to find a cracked copy of the games EXE file, and lunch the game from the cracked EXE.

I've already had starforce yet on my systems but, i didn't notice any problem yet, but i don't know anything very precise about that program

No, it's not. And it ruddy well shouldn't be either! I like using a crack, even if just to prevent me from playing DJ when wanting to play the game! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

I have 2 games I bought legal copies with starforce and in both games waited for No CD Crack and Starforce removal tool. I had problems with older starforce drivers, not sure about newer drivers but meh! I'm taking no chances. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Looks that the game is protected by TAGES (same protection as The Witcher). So I don't think that your PC will blow.

Is that "good"? Or at least "better"? And can anybody confirm/deny that CoAS uses Starforce or TAGES or something else? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

Don't know anythin about these copy protections but there seems to be "TagesClient.exe" -file in my "CoAS" directory.

It's a lot better. Sure, a no-dvd solution will take a long time to be developped, as TAGES is a better protection, but on the other side, you won't have any of the "joys" brought to you by Starforce. I don't mind to use a DVD in the unit, as I'm pretty careful with my stuff. I'm glad that they didn't choose Securom with online activation and limited installs. You can put that at the good things that Playlogic did:D
WizArDEVIL, thanks for confirming. It is indeed TAGES.

Thanks for that; based on what I gather from a quick Google search, there appears to be no insane amounts of complaints about Tages that there is about Starforce.
So if CoAS indeed DOESN'T have Starforce, that does solve rather a lot of people's worries. Then it's back to the bugs. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

Aye.. the bugs. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" /> That list should be made. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

The thread's there; now as for filling it...? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

As for filling the bugs thread, provided that we can actually find a copy of the game on the market...Playlogic never ceases to amaze me with their distribution. Something published by them is always extremely hard to find <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

Best of all, Tages allows itself to be uninstalled. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> No nasty surprises. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

COAS has TAGES - I think it's the next version of StarForce but I'm not sure <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> I only know that it requires some kind of drivers to install and sometimes when I try to run the game I get blue screen and rebooting..... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />o) <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />o) Sound like starforce eh? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />
