Installing v12.1 build over UK/Europe original game

Rummy

Landlubber
Hi all, first post <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />

I have just bought POTC (UK/Europe version) and downloaded the full v.12.1 build. Before I install it I just wanted to check if it is OK to go ahead and install this mod over the UK original, or are there any special instructions for localised installation that I should be aware of ??

Cheers
Rummy

Hello Rummy, and welcome aboard! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

There have been problems with the game not starting with the Ubisoft version of PotC, but I think these problems have been fixed. But it won't damage your system in any way, even if the game doesn't start. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dev.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":d:" border="0" alt="dev.gif" />

To install the full Build 12.1 file, just extract it on top of your PotC installation and run the RunMe.bat file in the main folder once. It should then work properly, even if you have some Euro/UbiSoft version.
(I made the file and use an English UbiSoft Euro version, so it should work)

Hi Guys, <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />

Sorry If i ask stupid questions but I am at work and can only catch a glance every now and then at these excellent forums. Trust me I would read every single post if i had half a chance.

Basically I used to play Cutthroats all the time. I just wished I could have the same game and keep the same experience and atmosphere but with wonderful updated graphics with all the greatness of having 3D crew, boats, being able to sail from port to port etc. I thought Sea Dogs would do that or most of it but I couldnt get the game in the UK for love nor money. Then i heard of Sea Dogs 2 coming out so i waited and waited... then obviously along came Disney *spit* to spoil my party by changing what was going to be my dream game. It wasnt quite up to scratch for me either. I'm so picky I know! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":blah:" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" /> I didnt like the way i was forced into a linear quest driven game from the start. Plus it was lacking in a few other areas but i cant go into all of them now...
Then I thought SM's Pirates! would be the new holy Grail for me but after a few hours I got fed up. I was massivly dissappointed in it. Then I looked again at PoTC which I bought ages ago when it first came out. After playing Pirates! I thought hey, its all I've got, may as well make the most of it!
Thats when i spotted these boards as i thought there must be some MODs for PoTC by now.. but boy i wasnt expecting anything half as good as this!!! From what i can gather Sea Dogs 2 will be out soon.. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" /> so I'm waiting for that as you can imagine. But for now with the great mods you guys are doing I think my copy of PoTC will have a new lease of life. Hell, from what i can tell it might even give SD2 a run for its money!
All i want to know now is where do i get my hands on this lovely 12.1 patch. Bearing in mind I've got a UK copy and not modded it before.

Thanks again!

I'd recommend downloading the full installation file from the main <a href="http://www.piratesahoy.net/component/option,com_docman/task,doc_download/gid,24/Itemid,46/lang,/" target="_blank">Pirates Ahoy! website</a>. If you extract the file on top of your PotC installation and then manually run the RunMe.bat file in the main PotC folder, the game should work fine. You can change the settings in the PROGRAMBuildSettings.h file to your liking. If you like, you can also install the post Build 12 mods from <a href="http://millenniumdock.bravepages.com/storage/others/potcmods.htm" target="_blank">this site</a> on top of your Build 12 installation. However, these are still in testing phase and may still be buggy.
Hope this helps you...

Thank Pieter Boelen!

I accidently clicked on the second link - the one with the post 12 mods and thought 'hey this is pretty impressive'. Then i realised this was the tip of the iceberg only and that the real 12 mod file was massive! I'm stunned!
Just cant wait to get home from work. I think I may have to buy the missus a bunch of flowers on the way back as she wont be seeing much of me tonight! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

LOL! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Compared to Build 12, the additional post Build 12 mods aren't all too much really. The Build does an almost complete makeover of the game, improving it in about evey single aspect. PotC might not have been the best game ever, but with Build 12 installed, it comes real close! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Anyway: Hope you'll have a great time with it! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />
