might want to ebay your copy there galen - sure to be some scurvy dogs out there who are short on plunder to buy it new. Bummer you didn't like it. I am in love with it!

My tip is this, Taunt the living crap outta them until you got advantage way on your side. Cause its hard to block if they hit you once (usually this means your dead anywho....)

Once you get 4/5 on your advantage hittem till 2/3 advantage on your side and retaunt, you should get 2 hits before retaunting them. Make sure that you know that when you do the animations of going up or down the stairs that you need to be aware that the advantage will be recovered by the enemy so be absolutely sure you got 4/5 advantage before hitting up or down the stairs...

Finally got my copy of this game and a chance to play it and all I can say is that I have to stock up on the rum and pizza, and see just how well I can get on in real life with only an hour's worth of sleep per night, because I haven't had a game in the longest time where I find myself asking myself, "When did it get to be 3 am?" <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_eek.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock:" border="0" alt="icon_eek.gif" />

I did that "3AM" thing last night, myself, ha... Playing right now as a French pirate, and just got it into my head that I HAD to make Havana French... Thats the main problem imo. If they would just have took the original gameplay and boost its graphics all would have been fine. But there have been so many changes, wether good or bad, that ihe game doesnt feel as pirates! on C64 anymore.

Seadogs and potc had some very unique and interesting features that could have been easily adapted to Pirates! since it isnt the original gameplay anymore, no one would have complained.
 
I disagree. I think the gameplay is darn near IDENTICAL to the original. There are a few things that don't directly compare. Like the removal of ship to shore battles and the addition of dancing. But the game "feels" just like the original to me. My brother and father both agreed as well after they logged a few hours on the game.

Don't get me wrong, I want a definitive pirate game too. But that's not where they were going with this one. Maybe "Sid Meier's Pirate Tycoon Civilation" will be out soon <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
 
I bought the game about 3 days ago and have played every night. What I liked about it <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> was I could sit down and start playing the first night. I didn't read the manual until the next night when I had some technical questions. As the game got easier, I increased the difficulty setting and got my head hand to me a couple of times, but I learned from my mistakes and am syill enjoying it.

I have found the dancing very difficult and frustrating, but just kept practicing and seem to be getting better

My son started playing it last night and seems to be enjoying it as well.

Either way, I end up with a bit too much Vitamin R or T in me belly, and filled with the urge to swing from the yards, screaming like Howard Dean. yar addictive it is, in fact I had to uninstall it after my wife started complainin, and I had beat the game so many times (not hard to do, specially since I got good at dancing, oh well wish i was good at fencing too).

despite all my gripes, it is still a fun game, but still feel bloody shortchanged with the bugs, and sloppy game design.

upgraded me graphics just to play pirates, but haven't played since (after about a month or so), moved on to some fps to check out me shiny new ati card (replete with its own problems) just finished HL2, working on the sims 2 and bloodlines next while waiting for a bigger better pirates game (unfortunately uncharted waters is going to be online which means I won't be playing it).
