Is the swordplay ridiculously easy for everyone else too?

Just wondering if its just me and the medium difficulty level, or if its that way for everyone else. It's really quite pathetic.

On everything but Swashbuckler, yes, swordplay is easy.

Solution: Play on Swashbuckler <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/pirate2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p:" border="0" alt="pirate2.gif" />

If you think the `sword-fights` are easy now...just wait until you get <i>old</i>.

I found it nearly impossible to win any `sword-fights` with my pirate in his `mid-forties` with fencing as his main skill on swashbuckler difficulty.

Although this is my first `run-though` the game...so maybe I'm just newbish.

What he said.

It is ridiculously easy until swashbuckler then it gets super hard. There is very little `middle-ground`.

I didnt lose a fight untill swashbuckler.

Does everone visit all the Pirates websites at the same time besides me? Well obviously you do. I'm new to all 3 and didn't know if I'd generate any responses. So I decided to cover my bases. And it's not like any of these sites are dying from too many posts per day.

Aside from a few grumpy folks, this is the place to be jp... so you can stop even bothering with those "other" websites <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> Welcome home!

Thanks! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

A few things increase the difficulty of dueling.

1. Play on swashbuckler.
2. Use the Rapier (fast attack, slow defense)
3. Get old.

Having attained a fame of 130 on Swashbuckler, I can say it definitely put me to the test in my later years. Those younger `whipper-snappers` were quick....but all fed the fish in the end! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/pirate2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p:" border="0" alt="pirate2.gif" />

Yeah, I'm not too good with this game yet, so it seems I'll have to go back to Rogue. I could do Rogue pretty simple, but with Swashbuckler, I only win every fifth fight or so.

But anyway, I've just fallen in love with `land-battles`, so I keep marching into friendly towns with lots of people and take every their every nickel. Then I go out and attack some enemy boats, and they forgivie me. Rinse and repeat.

I also won against 7 out of the 9 pirates in one go. I mean, before I had to divide the plunder. To me, that's a milestone achievement. I was playing on Rogue and thought I could upgrade to Swashbuckler no problem. How wrong was I. Seems I have to go back. I'll try playing the entire career on Rogue.

excuse me if you bilge rats have already answered this (of course i didn't search the forum! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />) but i read somewhere there's a <b>fencing tutorial.</b> might this be true?

In beta, when you lost a fight, the governor would offer to have you spar with his instructor. Gave you some practice. Dunno if it's still in the game as I have not lost a fight recently.

Well..for handling the age related problems you may have with dueling enemy ship captains on swashbuckler level you can always use chain shot to rip off all their masts and force them to strike colors.

If they dont strike colors immediately, or happen to be one of the main pirates or quest guys, use chain to take out the masts and then hammer them with grape shot all night until youve killed off those pesky crewmembers. After that one or two hits is all youll need <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Grape shot solves everything.

can you buy new weapons <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

I tend to find myself taking the crew mortale affecting items like the concertina and violin before i take new swords etc. Better to prolong your expeditions while your young and still can fight pretty well i think. Later on you can worry about those shiny new swords and armors.

where can i buy those shiny sowrds ? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Oh by the way...dont trake on a frigate with only 12 men lol....for some reason i just tried it with a Brig on swashbuckler....dodged all the broadsides and closed with her only to suddenly realize my boarding party consisted of the cook, a cooper, a surgeon, 8 cabin boys and myself lol.
