Need Help Is there a way to save during boarding?

I was thinking about this since I sometimes need to repeat a battle many times to find out a "winning strategy" (if there is) and it would be much more convenient if I could skip right to the section where I need to.

Would this be possible?

No, you can't save during an active battle.

There's a bug whereby, if the flagship of an enemy ship surrenders, the whole group surrenders. At that point you can save game - in fact, currently the only workround is to save and reload, which puts the rest of the group back to hostile. You can then board the surrendered ship, where the captain may choose to duel you depending on various factors, but you won't have to fight the whole crew.
