issue with surrender mod

Unlucky Jack

Landlubber
I've noticed in this build that ships continue to attck and sink ships that have surrendered. My companions ignore surrendered ships but enemy ships will attack.
I've noticed it across 2 installs now so its not the install. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

What Build version is that again? Build 13 Final? Can anybody confirm if it's in the more recent Alpha's as well?

it's always been an issue of the surrender mod, so i don't see why it wouldn't be in that version either.

What I want to know is if it was fixed in a later version... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

Build13 final here. It's only a minor irritation and only if its a ship I can board but I figured it was something worth mentioning. At least if they are wasting shot on surrendered ships, they are more likely to surrender to me later <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" /> .
Speaking of which, NPC ships really need more ammo and powder for this ammo mod to work right. It seems that ships are less likely to surrender if they have ammo even if they are below 10% hull. Unmodded warships seem to carry sufficient ammo but even merchant escorts have dreadfully low quantities of ball and powder.
On the subject of ammo mod, is there any way to include on-deck powder and ammo stores when looting? It seems unlikely any serious looter would leave this stuff behind especially when his own stores are getting low.

i've only once seen an enemy run out of shot, by my knowledge. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> would seem okay to me.

When looting them from enemy corpses or from the powder barrels on the boarding decks? I recall if you don't take all the powder from the powder barrels, they will be added to your cargo hold as powder goods.

powder barrels on the boarding decks- These barrels are not transfered as far as I can tell, my ammuniton stores seem to remain unchanged. The ammunition found on the decks at boarding usually measure above 1000, mine rarely exceeds 150.

Warships usually have an amount that seems to relate to portions dealt by the "Auto buy". Merchant ships tend to run out of ammunition quickly especially when their holds are full of cargo.

It's probably that one powder good is the equivalent of several powder items. I know this used to work in the past, but it might have broken at some point. I didn't recently check it.

I specifically targeted merchant only fleets and war fleets today. Merchant fleets usually surrendered within minutes due to lack of ordinance. In war fleets, even ships not carrying cargo (For some reason there is always one or two with decent cargo) have low shot counts and have run out of cannonballs or powder. There always seems to be one ship in a fleet that is well stocked, usually the one I have to chase down.
I had one battle that promised to be a challenge that ended up dissapointing. I joined a battle between British and Dutch forces while flying the british flag to find the following battle fleets:
Dutch: 2 MOW MM, 1 MOW, 2 Battleship MM
Britain: 1 MOW, 2 Galleon, 1 Frigate, 1 Brig
My Forces: 3 Super frigates, 1 heavy warship
I though "Wow this is gonna be a slug fest". Within 2 minutes the brig was done for as it sailed right at the dutch MOWs. I tried to skirt around the Dutch in an attempt to get my fleet to line up behind me but the dutch were upwind and closed fast. my fleet got caught and I thought I was going to lose a frigate. I should have lost a frigate. He was being shredded by a MOW and a battleship. Then both the MOW and the battleship just up and surrendered. Then a Dutch MOW MM was sunk. Then a British Galleon surrendered. The reamining Dutch MOW MM broke away and ran, so did the battleship. I ordered my intact Frigate and warship to pursue the battleship while I chased the MOW. The battleship surrendered, which seemed strange because by now there was no one near him. As soon as I cleared the pack of surrendered ships, the MOW surrendered.
Then for some strange reason the remaining British Galleon and MOW surrendered even though there was no enemy left to surrender to and the british frigate remained. After boarding the Dutch ships I realized they were all in good physical shape, still had good sails and hull, lots of crew. They just ran out of shot or powder. They had empty holds too, so cargo wasn't the problem. I can only speculate the British ships also ran out of ordinance. There were over 700 guns in this battle and only one ship sunk by them. Well at least I collected over 500k in gold off the captains coffers and traded a half dead Frigate for an almost pristine MOW.
This whole battle was over in under 15 mins.

I have set the surrend mod as follows: #define SURR_GLOBAL_SCL 0.3
Prior to setting it to 0.3, ships without ordinance would try to cut and run. At this setting, I find that ships surrender in a resonable or logical fashion. If they are suffering severe damage to sails, in combination with low or no ordinace, they surrender. If they still have shot, they usually have to be sunk or boarded even without sails.
Overall, I like the surrender mod at this setting. It is a good approximation of human thought. Some captains will surrender for the good of the crew, and others will fight to the last man. I would however like to know what to do to ensure they have sufficient ammo to do battle, even if it means less booty and less surrenders. Would that be the Ships.int file?

I sent this issue to Pirate_KK as well. I want to thank you for the thorough testing you put into this. Your results should be pretty valuable, if we can figure out how to improve the issues you mention. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />
