Would it be possible to have a completely empty GM file with a start and end locator so we can replace the current "invisible" weapon model?
The current one is actually a potion made very small, but you can still see it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

so technicly u want a scene with a locator and nothing else ??? if so dosent work <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/no.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":no" border="0" alt="no.gif" />

How about an even smaller potion with an alpha texture? That should do it.

Alpha textures don't work on weapons. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />
What if you make a scene with one tiny polygon and nothing else?

now that would work

<!--quoteo(post=308131:date=Mar 21 2009, 05:36 PM:name=Pieter Boelen)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Pieter Boelen @ Mar 21 2009, 05:36 PM) <a href="index.php?act=findpost&pid=308131"><{POST_SNAPBACK}></a></div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->Alpha textures don't work on weapons. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" /><!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Potions are Ammo....so are guns and swords & they use alphas <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

Then why didn't the alpha map work when we tried that on the BuildingSet palm trees? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

Of course this here idiot swapped his post in this thread with the Musketeers one; fixed now. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

BTW: Don't swords and guns use alpha maps for shininess instead of for transparency?

So... could somebody make a sort-of more invisible ammo model file? Pretty please...? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

A repost and some further requests. I need the following files and am really hoping very much somebody can make them:

1. Invisible weapon model (one tiny polygon with texture so you won't see it)

2. Big round plane with white sand texture (to be used for Davy Jones' locker: I intend to take the Black Pearl deck model, remove the sea and add the sandy plane instead)
If you want to go all fancy, some mountains in the background would be nice too. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

3. Kraken tentacle models; no need modeling the whole Kraken, just some tentacles.
They are to be used as floating goods and will be generated around ships subject to a Kraken attack.

4. Snowy retexture of the Antigua island model.

Pretty please. Someone? I can't believe any of the above would be very hard to accomplish; might only take a modeler a couple of minutes for 1 & 2.
#4 could be done by a texture artist. Only #3 would require some more complicated modeling and even then it's just some tentacles... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Hey Pieter... I can make your purgatory. I'll just have to wait for the next 10 hours... my 3ds is currently rendering an AVI file that's taking a long time... lots of particle systems, textures, and polys! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> (And I'm only rendering a 10 second clip!)

What do you want for the purgatory? Just a plane with textures and mountains? I can put it in a world sphere with a background map on it to create a vast open sky with no clouds and all. Plus, there were indeed dunes when Jack and the <i>Pearl</i> rode the crabs to the beach. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> Also, how big or small do you want this? Just tell me exactly what you're looking for and I think I can model it. I have the DreamScape plugin for 3ds! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

And I think my version of 3ds can export to OBJ.

My general idea was to take a ship deck location, remove the sea and put a big plane with a sand texture there instead.
Basically all the Davy Jones' Locker scenes would then take place on the Black Pearl deck, but that'd be a lot simpler than making a whole new location.
So the size of the plane should be about the size of the ingame sea area.
Then if you want to make it more fancy by adding some hilly stuff around it, that'd also be welcome, but just a simple textured plane would also be adequate as far as I'm concerned.

As far as exporting is concerned, you probably need to save as VRML and convert to GM with the TOOL.
OBJ can probably be imported in Maya and then exported with the plugin, but I'm not sure how that would work. That's ZarethPL's area of expertise.
But VRML>TOOL>GM usually works fine and that I do know how to do. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Can nobody make me a one-tiny-polygon GM file?
And would anybody be willing to try his hand at some Kraken tentacles? They don't need to be incredibly modeled; just need to get the point accross.
I'm trying not to ask too much here, so that one of our esteemed modelers might quickly be able to whip up the needed files...? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Thanks to new modder <i>zkajo</i>, we now have an invisible weapon model that you REALLY can't see.
We're still sorting out the texture error log, but in the meantime we seem to have discovered where the
"Can't load texture resource\textures\.tx" messages come from. These seem to appear when a texture name with a space in it is used.
So it comes highly recommended to not used spaces in the texture names; use underscores instead. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Attached file appears to work perfectly as invisible weapon; thanks again, zkajo!

LMAO! I see what you mean now! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

You're not supposed to see what I mean anymore! But you used to be able to.
Your "fists" are a blade that used to look like a very small potion, but you could still see it.
Now it's one tiny triangle that's just too small to spot.

You welcome Pieter ;-) I am willing to do more work which is a bit more advanced then that, although I'm not a proffesional.
